rattling and clicking sound coming from civic

Had this problem for a week or so. Everytime I start to drive the 01 civic (auto), there is this loud rattling and clicking sound coming from the passenger side of the car. It alternates between clicking, whizzing and rattling. Sounds like something is loose in there. When I turn the A/C off, it was ok...
WEnt to KAh Motor, they said that it was the air con compressor problem, and they quoted $1.4K to replace the compressor.
Anyone else experienced the same problem and how did you solve it? If it is really the compressor, do u have any contacts? -
get a recon one.... will save you quite a bit of money.

yah... i found out from mova and stamford tyres that they have original *NEW* compressors, plus labour and everything, only abt $600+ leh...
there is also someone who sells OEM ones... alot cheaper...
apparently the rattling sound is because of the compressor clutch bearing... wear and tear i think... went out of shape, scraping against the metal...
well let's hope that after changing it will be ok...

Normally compressor are replaced if Air-con is not cold. If there are this rattling sound, maybe somethings is not fixed properly thus the sound.
Anyway Kah motor "chop" ppl with that price. -

true enough, after changing the compressor, there's no more noise! Yay!
i saw the old part, there is a bearing at the end of the compressor, and it is very loose... that was why there is a rattling sound, even though the air con is still cold and all... air con cold... means coil still ok...
