Yes, it is normal to pay up the downpayment + other charges like insurance up front before you get the car. But you might want to check that insurance, road tax should start only around the time you collect the car, if not on the same day. This is normally granted as the case, but in case there's cockups...Originally posted by wbucket:Hi everyone,
I just booked a car and got my COE last wednesday. Now My SE just called me, telling me to perpare my payment + some other charges (guess is insurance). I find it strange that he is already asking me to pay up the full sum, even though he told me the car will only be available in Feb. He said he needs to register already.
Now, is this normal? Do you guys pay up immediately after getting your COE or just before getting your car? The SE told me he need to register now, but I thought the car needs to be there for registration?
Will be meeting my SE soon, so I would appreciate it if you guys could advise me before that.
It seems they only have a fix number of cars coming in per month.Originally posted by Nitroblood:Not very sure about the payment thingy~
But I got my car a few days after I'd made the payment~
Maybe you should check with your SE why is the car so late and you have to make the payment so early~
I had a 2 month wait for car, so didn't pay balance of downpayment plus insurance till abt 1 to 2 weeks before collecting car...Originally posted by wbucket:It seems they only have a fix number of cars coming in per month.
All Jan's cars are booked.
So I can only book for Feb shippment.
From the amount he gave me, seems like just downpayment and insurance.
Anyway, thanks for the info.
I will confirm the dates involved and the breakdown of the fees I am paying.
Sorry, false alarm. Just confirmed with my SE.Originally posted by nielle:I had a 2 month wait for car, so didn't pay balance of downpayment plus insurance till abt 1 to 2 weeks before collecting car...
congrats new car for the new year....Originally posted by wbucket:Sorry, false alarm. Just confirmed with my SE.

SE not very free in weekends.
Anyway it should be 3 weeks after registration.
But I will ask him exactly when he is registering.
Hi,Originally posted by twinkie:wbucket, wat car did u eventually get?
how much downpayment?
Kelisa, very cute.Originally posted by wbucket:Hi,
Actually, after much consideration and calculations, I think kelisa would be suited for me now. And so that is what I have booked.
So how about you? What is your (future) ride?

3 things I want for my first car. Hatchback, Manual, under 61.5k. I feel both YRV and new Swift a little over budget for me. Aveo doesn't give you the drive feel enough to pay that extra money. First choice was Ignis, but gone. So Kelisa.Originally posted by twinkie:wbucket, really? kelissa...why not picanto? hey with the low coes, u thinking of upping yr choices?
sorry, probably had asked u before... what were the cars u were considering, the small ones.. (economically priced)? i thot i was going for the picanto, but friends said kia cars r not good, n things start dropping off!
so mayb looking at other choices... wat's a good small car, low fc, prob free? haha.. if there is such a car?![]()

Since I can't afford a car that would feel totally worth it, example Jazz/IST, might as well go for a cheap one. Plus I heard the service center in Malaysia has great service and worksmanship. Tons of things could be done to the car. Be it the cabin, exterior, interior. The test-drive also feels much better than Aveo. Of course it loses to cars like Lancer, Vios.
Anyway, the part about parts felling off sounded like a joke, why don't you ask the Picanto drivers?
The cheapest prob-free car I can think of so far is Vios. All others that goes cheaper will have a little problem here and there. But for you, I would advise you try out Hyundai Getz if you can afford it. If not for the fact that it only comes as Auto, I would have already test-driven one.
O, as for why kelisa, not picanto. You can only know when you test drive them. Try both auto, then you can feel which is more powerful. Trust me, you can feel it.
Ya I know about that Getz, went with my friend hoping to find 1 in the showroom we can test drive, but can't find. Like Vios, only have auto for test driving.Originally posted by free4ever:Getz comes with manual 1.6 however only available in 3 door guise.
And yes, Kelisa is a good choice...![]()
Great mind think alike...Originally posted by wbucket:Ya I know about that Getz, went with my friend hoping to find 1 in the showroom we can test drive, but can't find. Like Vios, only have auto for test driving.
You think kelisa is a good choice too. I guess we belong to the less than 1 percentage of Singaporean who think so. Even those without cars don't think I made the right choice. But I still went ahead. So what is your ride?
