i was on my way to an interview on 30 dec. as i was getting late, i alighted from the bus halfway thru the journey to get a cab. after several attempts, i finally got one. as i was going to be late, i requested the driver uncle, who is a fatherly character to try and go faster. right away he asked me for any landmarks or small roads tt i may know to facilitate the journey. i can sense his genuine concern for me then... throughout the whole journey, we chatted abt the economy lah, why i did not sign on wif the army lah, etc, etc... he is tt nice and friendly. and when i arrived, he charged me $5 even though the fare is $5.20. juz before i alight, he even wished me good luck for my interview.
he is really a rare gem in the taxi industry. if every taxi drivers can be like him, there won't be so much complains abt the service industry liao... this uncle makes my day man...
too bad in my haste i forgot to take down his plate number or notice the type of cab he is driving. or else i will definitely write a compliment letter to ST forums and his cab company... is there anyway to get the above information now? -

There are always kind Singaporeans around, and when I meet them, I'm really happy.
In 2001, I left my mobile phone in the taxi around 3am. I called many times but my phone was on vibrate so I think Uncle didn't know the phone was in the backseat. He found it after 30 mins or so when he stopped to take a break and I called again. Thankfully no one else had gotten into the taxi or my phone mightn have been gone. He then drove all the way back to my place to return it to me. I offered to pay him for the journey to and fro but he refused. Such a kind driver..I then remembered the taxi number and called in to leave a message of thanks. -
Once after clubbing @ zouk, we hailed a mercs cab. Asked him to take us to a good bak kut teh stall other then the one nearby zouk ! He brought us to one along Balestier Rd. Had a whooping meal and the best part, he was there waiting for us. Drove over to where we were standing to pick us up. When we got in the cab, i found out he even paused the taxi meter. So we saved on the starting fare of $2.40.
