From my research, Toyota FC much better, enginer much better, spare parts much abudant. Vios totally out-classed Optra if you are talking about power, handling, efficiency. But Optra looks more classic and is definitely more spacious.Originally posted by burpman:hi... im a newbie here, am currently interested in the vios-e or the optra 1.6. pricing abt the same and the optra's interior is alot better than the vios but im not not sure abt engine wise/fc and avail of spare parts.. pls advice... thanks
You said yourself that you want good fc and maintenance. But you sounded like you are looking for a spacious and nicely packaged family car. Take time to think about what you really want.Originally posted by burpman:...... im not so much for looking for a fast car, just a reasonable family car with good fc and maintenance.......
you are quite right. im looking at a decent family car cos its my first purchase and i wish to be careful abt it. cos i intend to make the car last at least 5 years and hence i do not wish to make some decision that i may regret later on. which was why i narrowed to optra and vios. hence the qn of build of car vs a well-known name for reliability. so u were saying u nearly chose the aveo over vios, may i know why? i tried the aveo but i found it bit too small for me. cos im 1.8m. the fittings reminded me more of daewoo unlike the optraOriginally posted by wbucket:....
Usually only experience car owners who have learn things that hard way will be able to look beyond the looks of the car. I also almost choose Aveo over Vios.
I am still single. So to me, space is almost at the last of my list. Plus I am only 1.65m, I can feel comfortable in any car. For my first car, I want to go for a Hatchback. With my budget, I can't go for famous brand like Honda Jazz and Mitsubishi Colt. Anyway, I liked Aveo for its looks. Got a younger feel compared to Vios. Build wise, I don't see much flaws to it. Much cheaper too.Originally posted by burpman:......so u were saying u nearly chose the aveo over vios, may i know why? i tried the aveo but i found it bit too small for me. cos im 1.8m. the fittings ......
Try out Mazda 2 only a bit more $ than vios. nice power + made in japan.Originally posted by burpman:hi... im a newbie here, am currently interested in the vios-e or the optra 1.6. pricing abt the same and the optra's interior is alot better than the vios but im not not sure abt engine wise/fc and avail of spare parts.. pls advice... thanks
The thing I hate about Mazda, or actually is the dealers who brought them in, why isn't there a manual tranmission Mazda 2? Well, I always told it looks sporty, so why the only auto thing?Originally posted by IcedLemon:Try out Mazda 2 only a bit more $ than vios. nice power + made in japan.![]()

I know Singaporean are getting lazy, but there are still some of us who take joy in driving manual......at least for now.
The comments I got from most who test-driven both Optra and Vios said Vios is much more powerful than Optra. Guess you are the first I heard saying Optra has more push.Originally posted by Demonhawk:I will be favouring Optra cos in terms of power, it has definitely more push than vios. i personally like the suspension of the optra which gives more comfort compared to the japanese make. In terms of features, it has a no. of added advantages as well... For eg., electronic and remote controlled boot, rear arm rest, foldable rear seats, bigger leg room, bigger boot, 15" tyres for better road holdings, etc.
Just my 2 cents...
Originally posted by wbucket:its true what demonhawk said abt the optra has more features and that was what made me consider it in the first place. the features and fittings were a notch better than the vios that i was considering... with all the items found only in more higher price cars but at such a bargain price on par with the vios...

Say, have you tested Kia Cerato and Proton Gen2? I remembered from 1 issue of motoring that these 2 cars are reviewed as the better budget cars around, together with Vios. Cerato also have great interior and decent space. Gen 2, on the other hand, has a very sporty feel and a Lotus engine.[/b]
Since City is in the picture now...... If you are buying Auto, go for City. It has the best Auto system around at that price. If manual, go for Vios. If comfort, have to decide for your own then.Originally posted by burpman:......i have narrowed down to the vios and (now) the city. but the city doesnt have lots of specs, no srs, abs or alloy rims which on comparison makes the vios looks for much attractive now......
I heard somewhere that BM's SE are given about 1k (No proof, believe it or not!!!) extra to give out freebies. My advice is go back, try another SE. Since the last one didn't want to give you anything, don't have to go back to her. Then you must really be aggressive, show them you are not that eager to buy yet. Must be ready to walk out the moment they said no. Tell them you are still looking at other cars, things like that.Originally posted by burpman:im one step closer... went down to bm today and the se just refuse to give any freebies though i asked for it... its like she say "best price" and there's nothing she can do abt it... im going down again tmr to sign the contract but does anyone have any hints on how to get freebies? by the way, vios comes with an optional 788 package which includes leather seats, "alloy look" dashboard, and a negligible spoiler... but it seems that this package leaves out the fog lamps.. which im more interested in. any advice?
nope, where u get that from?Originally posted by wbucket:Didn't Vios already comes with leathers? Why still need package? If I were you, I ask for V-kool.
Good luck! I wonder COE is going up or down the next round.
