Base on report, this is due to the additional COE released by the govt.Originally posted by DarthVdr:How much lower can it go?? Anyone with the crystal ball care to predict??
Cannot correct something that is correct!Originally posted by sunboy77:Any advice for used-car getters?
Most people will say: "Wah now new car so cheap! Who will get an used car?"
But the concept of depreciation is not factored in right? E.g. Say now a new Mazda 6 will cost $80k with the latest COE. But the annual depreciation still remians high at about $7.2k or so. Whereas, a '03 used Mazda 6 can easily have an annual depreciation of $6.5k only.
The high depreciation of new cars is all the more true when parf is going to drop to only 45% of OMV. Therefore, low COE -> low OMV -> lagi lower parf!
Please correct me if what I said is not correct.

Sun boy is trying to compare cars that falls under different Parf systems. What u have in mind rite now are cars with same parf system but different coe thats all. The current parf system gives u back 75% of ARF and unused COE if u scrap the car but only for cars registered after 5/02. Cars registered before 5/02 gets back 130% of OMV + unused COE. So what sunboy is comparing are these 2 categories of cars. the % are different and their reference point (OMV,ARF) is also different. The ARF will go down further in the coming year as promised by the government (so as to make cars more affordable) so your reference point will also shift accordingly. What is standard is the refund of unused COE which is what u have in mind...Originally posted by coolblue6699:Sorry I cant understand this part low COE-> low OMV -> lagi lower parf
I thought lower COE will hence cause the depreciation to be lower since the OMV (which determine the parf) is fix on the log card. ie, the parf of any car do not depends on the COE right?
I still support used vehicle since what sunboy77 say is true, used car got to have a lower depreciation
