Hello Benhur,Originally posted by benhur80:toyota vios 1.5L(Auto) and kia carens 1.8L(Auto)
buying either one of them OPC. which is better. road tax not an issue since it is OPC.
toyota vios at 58Kplus, and kia carens at 67Kplus
in term of space and capacity, kia carens win...but,in term of resale value, which is better. i know toyota has a better resale value, but now its 1.5L vs 1.8L, will it makes a difference?
i do not need to ferry my families around, because i am still young at 25yo. Wanted to get a big car because i had seen many ladies driving around with big cars! Some even drove toyota celica with P-plate...haha...of course,i cant afford all those sporty car, and since i cant afford, might as well get one big one to Crash them...hehe...its the ego thing lah....
you guys may as well tell me not to get one since i am getting an OPC or to get a small car,etc....but it lies in all guys ego.....you cant run away from it
so,please...help me to choose between these two....in term of resale value as i really need to get some cash back after 5-7years later, which one will fetch more?can someone pls help me to calculate?...many thanks!!!

tts the biggest u can find.. better than caren or whatever SUV, MPV u can find.
u r honest no doubt....but u are pissing alot of ladies with ur ego balls.
I c your point now... but seriously speaking the way you maintain your mentality on being "tew" by the government when buying a car will continue to bog you down even if you get an OPC. The simple fact remains that everything that got to do with the car the government will definitely "earn one hand" inside it... From petrol to road tax to insurance to season parking to veh inspection to buying the car itself; GST, ARF, RF, servicing costs etc etc etc the government have a share in it. Tobacco and Vehicle are 2 main income source for the government coffers. They can't encourage you to smoke more to beef up their treasury but they certainly can make cars more affordable by lowering ARF and increasing COE quota. So in a way, pple like you who a bit 'anti-government' will think that you actually get away with a bargain getting an OPC. But the fact remains after you get that OPC car, you are still trapped inside this rat race... Try to suppress those hallucinations of yours thinking you found a way out beating the system. As long as you dun like the system at all, you will always find fault with it. And you will never be satisfied. So what's the point of getting a car at all then?Originally posted by benhur80:one day got 24hrs......sleep time 10 hrs.......if work more than 8hrs a day...isnt opc a better deal?

As you said,Tobacco and car selling are government main sources of income.
Tobacco harms health, but still many ppl buy and smoke even there is increase of price. Why?because they enjoy it.
what i am trying to say is that when i buy a car,i have to enjoy it. Government comes up with a COE costing from 17-25K per piece of paper. By getting OPC, i actually offset the COE. OPC has no road tax or a minimal of 50bucks. Minus all these,i can get a car which i really really like and enjoy driving and not burning a hole in my pocket. So long as what the government comes out with,i offset it and i get to enjoy it,why not?it is no doubt a depreciating item, but at the same time you get to enjoy the luxury and that is the price i want to pay. By paying 17K for a piece of paper,i dun think so.
its the same as people go in JB to pump oil and buy cigarettes(per pack per person lah) at a discounted price.
dont tell me not even 1 singaporean does that. if you say that all singaporean are very lawful and doesnt try ways and means to beat the system, then we shall end this topic as i feel no point in debating on this issue anymore as it will make you more ignorant on this issue!

as for the ciggarrettes and pumping of oil, unless u r a member of PAP, i think most will go with this system.
my GP teacher told me today that's why the goverment set men's payroll higher than women's. to make up for the lost time in NS.Originally posted by Praetorian111:How much r u earning per mth?? $3k? Dun add aditional burden to urself.... after all, we as guys starts working later than girls.... u cannot compare urself to ur peers of the opposite sex.
Little boy, your teacher is only telling you what is being practiced in the gov sector. For those private ones, they don't take this NS thing into consideration. My first job (engineer), I was paid the same as the ladies, and those guys who didn't even earn a honours. Sad to say, though it is true, most teacher do really have real working experences. Most re-entered into the school straight from Uni. Lastly, don't show this to your teacher, definitely kanna fail by your teacher for poor usage of English.Originally posted by devmeister:my GP teacher told me today that's why the goverment set men's payroll higher than women's. to make up for the lost time in NS.
It is true in the government sectors, but not so true in the private sectors... guys and girls are actually fighting neck to neck to get a job. In the real world, and with all the cost saving and restructuating of firms whoever calls for a lower wage under the same qualifications mostly gets the job.Originally posted by devmeister:my GP teacher told me today that's why the goverment set men's payroll higher than women's. to make up for the lost time in NS.
