NISSAN PRIMERA - need your opinion strongly

  Hi
  
  I am seriously contemplating purchasing Nissan Primera and I search this forum many times but only noted 3 posting, and no answer to those!
  
  Is it such a bad car that it has no following? Someone say the design does not go down well with Singaporeans.
  
  Please give me your opinions.

  I had once fall into Primera... It's very true that the popularity wasn't great in SGP bcos it's more continental.
  
  I opted for Mazda 6 bcos the design is much more sporty and spacious. Anyway, I do have the contacts for Primera Club in SGP..

  All nissan models are gas guzzler, but acceptable next to the koreans. Come on, realistically speaking dun expect a 2.0 to drink like a 1.6. Even toyota can't claim that.
  
  BTW i like primea then & now, didn't buy cos it's currently out of my reach.

  Honestly, I dont know the specs, but simply love its look... not as big as cefiro, and the back looks mesmerizing. Yes, I confess I am a shallow person (going for looks).
  
  I am not too sure about the interior though cause never had a chance to ride in it yet. Also, there are not too many primeras around so lesser chance of any fren owning it.

  Primera is 2.0litres 4 cylinder, 150bhp, 200Nm of torque. 10.9 sec century sprint.
  
  I have seen interior of it and to me it looks rather futuristic. Quality wise, nissan should be quite alright. You might want to take a look in their showrooms to get a feel of it. I like the centre console.
  
  The reason why there are such few primera might the singaporean mentality of "biggest car possible with the smallest engine cc possible"(read: Cefiro, S280, S80 2.0T, 730i, etc). Also, before the current model, cefiro 2000cc V6 engine kinda make primera an "inferior" car. However, now, a Primera seems logical with the dismisal of Cefiro 2000cc V6 engine.
  
  To me (and probably nissan too), it actually capture a different niche of market, targeting at younger buyers who do not want to be labelled driving father's cars or driving physically big cars. It is also more powerful too 150bhp vs Cefiro 145bhp and probably lighter too, characteristics more desirable to younger buyer. It is also slightly cheaper than the current 200JK Cefiro
  
  If you like it, why bother what other think, go down to nissan showroom, test drive and see how it goes.

  For that amount you spend on a Nissan primera you can actually purchase a subaru 2.0 impreza or toyota camry. Maybe go for cheaper alternatives like Hyudai sonota.

  Thanks to free4ever for the encouragement. Yes, we should not care so much on what others thinking, afterall, we are the ones behind the driving wheel. I check that query to find out if there is any "hidden" reasons why the model is not popular.
  
  And yes, it does appeal to me also becos it is not so big like cefiro. And you are right, it does cater to a niche market.
  
  Thanks to Praetorian111 too. Toyota Camry also quite big vehicle to me. Though not too sure about Subaru 2.0 Imprez.

  My boss drives one and I've sat in the car several times...nice and spacious, but noticed today that the engine speed at 80km/h is 3500rpm !
  Don't know if this is normal for all Primeras or something wrong with the CVT....
  
  Other than this, think its a fairly nice looking car, looks best in dark colours...

  ppl i've talked to seem to be divided over the primera's front grille design. to me and some others it's really fierce and cool. but a lot of ppl cant stand it too...
  
  that said, if i had the cash i'd go for a camry anytime over a primera. camry rox

  I was awestruck by the design of the Primera when it first appeared and I still love its looks till today. Truly unique and distinctive; unlike the bland 'dime a dozen' Corollas, Camrys and Civics you see on the road.

  is it? some ppl refer impreza to ts leh. and wrx as wrx. sti as sti.
  that's why whenever ppl mention impreza, my auto reply is.... " TS or WRX?"

  Sounds like Primera fits the line "You either love it or hate it". Agree that the front is kind of non-conventional, kind of an "acquired taste" (in the bad sense).
  
  True enough, it is in the same category as Toyota Camry. Primera costs around $86K, think Camry is higher priced at $95k, pls correct if I am not right.
  
  Anyone can advise and compare performance of the two? For intance in areas of the engine and f/c?

  Only drawback of Primera is the CVT drivetrain, esp to people used to 4 speed autos. CVT totally eliminates the sensation of acceleration as the rpm doesn't rise & fall, however CVT engines are known to be more fuel frugal.
  
  And dun even consider sonata cos at time of printing, it has bloated up to 2.4 with a similar bloating of pricetag to 84k. For 2k more, i would rather go for primera

  impreza ts is 1.6 litres. impreza wrx is the 2.0 litres version. impreza wrx sti is the champion performer. den got dunno wad else lah. spec C etc etc blah blah
