some questions regarding driving~

  juz started learning driving not too long ago,
  
  wan to check with you guys when muz one use the clutch?isit only when stopping,changing gear,and starting?
  
  and also when changing gear,can one change from third gear to first gear straight away?or muz slowly change to second then to first...?
  
  and wht the correct way to start moving the car?isit depress the clutch,depress acelerator,and slowly release clutch half way?Follow by putting down the hand brake?
  
  lastly,how to maintain the half clutch technique properly?cos everytime have problem...

  moving off on zero gradient - gas up a little, then slowly release clutch. hand brake no need so late release unless on an upward slope. guess this is so...
  
  clutch is used to disengage your transmission from the engine. used mainly as to change gears. have to clutch in when car stationary, if not car's gonna stall. cos w/o gas the rpm already so low, then if the engine gets engaged with the stationary car, the resistance will even lower the rpm so much so that the engine will stall. think so la that's what i make out myself...

  u can use it for very fast rolling... just like putting the gear on 'neutral'.
  
  u can use it for blowing the engine for fun when stationary.

  change in sequence is best. coz it will have more even wear and prevent yourself from garbra and engage wrong gear (5th) and cause perm damage.
  
  i've seen taxi drivers shift 1,3,5 wiith high revs. or 2,3,5. don't ask me if will spoil transmission. but sometimes the car will become sluggish.

  1.step on clutch all the way.
  2.release to halfway point and feel for the 'biting' point.
  3. step on the accelerator (floor it if you want. )
  4. once you feel the car 'want to go forwards'
  4. release handbrake and release clutch.

  Hrm... Yup... use clutch only when stopping, moving off or changing gear... You want, can also ji seow other drivers... at traffic light, clutch in, then rev engine...
  
  Hrm... actually... when you're downshifting, you can change from 3rd to 1st, but not for beginners... downshifting from 3rd to first, is when you're braking and slowing down to such speeds of 20 or less... then you can change to 1st straight away... cos it's just like you just moved off... but there might be a jerk if you don't do it properly...
  But for L plate... please... follow the sequence...
  
  I dunno y you want to put down the hand brake last... if on flat ground, I usually just put down the hand brake FIRST... release the clutch until the biting point, then accelerate a bit and release the clutch more... and you're off...
  
  Just keep practicing... the half clutch will keep getting better... I kept stalling my car right up til the exam... and I didn't stall during it... Passed first time too...

  aiyah...stalling happens one...dun be embarassed abt it...even experienced drivers also stall cars wad....once u get the feel of the clutch pedal i'm sure u can move off smoothly liao

  agree... especially driving rented or new car and not used to the biting points.

  clutch can also be use for free-wheeling. look up ur theory book to find the meaning ba.. but it say tat free-wheeling is dangerous at high speed.
  
  can change from 3rd to 1st gear, but before tat, brake to decrease the speed first, if not will car jerk. but u r L plate now. so, advise is tat u don change like this. u better change gear by gear.
  
  hand brake release first or last depend on urself. when learning, the book say handbrake last. then u go learn, instructor say handbrake first. so, there is no right or wrong. for me, i release handbrake first, except for slope la. of course. lol
  
  for half clutch, as u attend more and more lesson, u will get it one. don worry.

  Anyways is there any solid write up or testimonial that skipping gears for manual will actually wear the engine?
  
  I am a kinda person who likes 1,2,5 or 1.3,5 and even 1,2,4,5 sequence
