Join the gang !!! I and a few colleague all brought sunny like you, all face same as you. If it is build to be like that how to change, cannot do much. All give up already by now, all dump our sunny and brought other cars already lah..... !!!Originally posted by Chrysalis_Guy:I just bought a 1993 Nissan Sunny (1.6 Auto). To my horror, the full tank is only 326km!! I sent it to workshop and checked fuel tank, spark plugs, injectors etc etc, and it was still found to be normal.
Then, a workshop mechanic told me that I need an engine overhaul and the guaranteed that the economy will be 400km+ which should be normal range. It would cost me $1500+.
May I know what are the items fixed/changed which would cost so much and then improve economy so much?
Thanks

Nope you are VERY wrong...Originally posted by ronnie_2600:really sucks to be you.
you should've checked out before buying 2nd hand cars.
FC is determined by engine design mostly... apparently the 93 sunny are drinkers (my friend happens to own one previously, was cursing/swearing) somemore is auto tranny.
what you can do is try to apply those fuel saving tips, be more light footed, carry less weight, plan route..etc etc.
engine overhaul not cheap... u might as well dump the car and get a newer one. save more in the long run, esp nowadays the petrol prices going up.
cannot anyhow change engine lar.... If u take two cars of the same model to change then can. But will have to scrap the other one once it is done....Originally posted by carlover88:Try going across the causeway to get yr engine overhauled. Think they do for half the price there. The older Sunny engines are quite economical. Not sure why yrs is having fuel problems. Heard even 12-13 yrs old car, they get about 10-11 km/litres.
Another option is to change the engine completely. Heard could be done as you just need to register with LTA. Nowadays, with more newer cars scrapped. may get a better engine. But heard the newer CVT sunny cars fuel consumption are just as bad. So, may not be a new idea afterall.
How abt the transmission?? did he check for u??Originally posted by Chrysalis_Guy:I just bought a 1993 Nissan Sunny (1.6 Auto). To my horror, the full tank is only 326km!! I sent it to workshop and checked fuel tank, spark plugs, injectors etc etc, and it was still found to be normal.
