traffic on bke, turning into pie is also the same in the morning. some time smooth, some time bad. and i agree tat, there r time when no accident, but got TP station at the road shoulder there, then the traffic end up jam liao. wonder y scare of tp when u done nth wrong.Originally posted by Redz:Using AYE daily to work in City...but slow traffic seems to be the norm in the last couple of years.
Accidents are not uncommon - witnessed 2 in the last 3 daysBut jams are not necessarily caused by accidents...sometime the signboard just say "slow traffic". There was a period where traffic slowed due to TP stationed near ERP gantry - how ironic!?
Wonder if slow traffic is the norm at other expressways? If so, wat's wrong with our expressways...thot they are meant 2b "express" traffic!? Are our ERP system effective then? Any comments?
You trying to hint the gov to increase the time period of ERP in operation, or the charge per pass? You can always get up and leave for work 15mins earlier to avoid the heavy traffic.Originally posted by Redz:......

Are u saying we shd accept jams on expressways? Is asking for a smooth traffic a little too much to accept?Originally posted by wbucket:You trying to hint the gov to increase the time period of ERP in operation, or the charge per pass? there will be jams in other countries when the same route is a popular 'peak' route. u just have to live with it bro.Originally posted by Redz:Are u saying we shd accept jams on expressways? Is asking for a smooth traffic a little too much to accept?
Btw, we're here to discuss...not hinting anything 2 nobody!?
Last time morning got Sintia and Su on FM91.5, only only left Sintia, a bit boring as there is no-longer any conservations.Originally posted by speedygonzales:its the same on PIE or ECP during peak hours.... seriously, peak hour heavy traffic is rather common on popular highways and routes... no point in complaining cos dat makes ur ride a frustrating wan... turn up ur ICE and enjoy ur favouraite songs or DJs on air... or to move out earlier to avoid the peak hr traffic.... cool it fren!

the problem with the park/ride scheme is it is a stupid idealology.
Anyway, like I say, hate jams, take MRT. That is why Gov promotes park and ride scheme.
ok. this point is useless to argue, TP comes, sees your 60km/hr vehicle on lane 2. u get booked. period.
As for lorry all that, since the traffic is already so slow (no large gap between cars), them using the 2nd lane isn't actually road hogging. These guys drive to earn money, so I think that gives them more right to drive. So for us who drive for comfort, can't stand the jam, take MRT.[/b]
Highway traffic jams are usually caused by heavy vehicles hogging the 3rd and 2nd lane causing other slow moving vehicles to "cruise" in the over taking lanes, then all other traffic gets stuck behind...Originally posted by Redz:Using AYE daily to work in City...but slow traffic seems to be the norm in the last couple of years.

I didn't know travelling in lane 2 is illegal for those 60km/hr vehicles. Always saw them overtaking using those lanes. Of course when I say slow, it is when being in lane 1 you still can't drive above 60km/hr.Originally posted by ronnie_2600:ok. this point is useless to argue, TP comes, sees your 60km/hr vehicle on lane 2. u get booked. period.
there is no question of who has the 'right', be it earning money or not.
coz you cannot rationalise that earning money have more rights, otherwise u will have to give way to taxis. since they are paid per km/second.
Anyway I don't see the wrong in switching lanes during jams. Of course not for the purpose of jumping Q, but just to filter lane for a turn later on.Originally posted by ronnie_2600:......
Thats why the whole damn traffic is slow.. cant these people stick to lane 2 since they are going to exit and not switch lanes during traffic jam?

Glad to see someone sharing the same sentiments abt AYE. Fm hear-say, AYE isn't the worst of traffic in Sg during rush hours.Originally posted by tailslide:the traffic jams characterize the fact that we are living in country with a predominant prob; cheaper cost of vehicle ownership vs infrastruture capable of supporting the additional vehicular movement.
there'll always be jams at peak hour coz thats when ppl travel to and fro work. maybe the government should give incentives to encourage companies to adopt different work schedules like in japan. one shift starts at the normal time, the next about 2 hrs later. imagine if half of our normal working hours, driving workforce practice this, the amount of traffic will cut down by half!
i'm fortunate to be able to live near my workplace now that i've recently shifted. but b4 that, i did have to go through the unpleasant travel along AYE in order to get 2 work so i can really appreciate the frustration shared by our fellow drivers.

bro, i am suay enough to travel both PIE (eunos-tuas), ECP/aye(bedok-jurong) during peak hours. so i know what i am talking about.
Anyway, I drove PIE. Road jams from passenger vehicles entering the expressway, not by lorries and trucks.
thats the point i am saying lor.

Yesterday when I tried doing that, already 3 wheels into the lane, then heard a soft horn, a yellow cab rush by just to jam brake again right in front of me. That was in a Jam, I already started filtering and 2 cars passed by slowly before I got to where I was before the taxi zoom by me. Impatiences is what accident is all about.[/b]
To be fair, most heavy vehicles along AYE are rather law-abiding in tat they stuck to their lane. In fact, the strange thing I see is tis tend to be the smoothest lane of the 3.Originally posted by Bloop...:Highway traffic jams are usually caused by heavy vehicles hogging the 3rd and 2nd lane causing other slow moving vehicles to "cruise" in the over taking lanes, then all other traffic gets stuck behind...
Even removing the heavy vehicles, you get morons driving in the 2nd and overtaking lanes at the same speed as, or slower than, traffic to the left of them, leaving no room for others to overtake... then again, you have traffic buildups.
Instead of raising the cost of everything (true PAP solution to every problem) we need to seriously relook educating drivers and riders here. TPs should stop closing one eye to road hoggers.
I saw a documentary in the US, a traffic watch helicopter flying overhead recorded long stretches of open road infront of road hogging vehicles along several points of a heavily congested highway. They did an experiment pulling these drivers to the side (cops on bikes did that after getting feedback from the copters) and traffic speeds went up by a significant margin. Traffic started to flow smoothly.
Just my 2 cents.
Ok, today saw an idiot in a Mercedes. I was in lane 1 at 80km/h. That fellow slowly move out of his lane 2. That car's butt just half a car or so in front of me. No Signal. Horn once, still the same, horn a few time, he just continue cutting in. Then that AH slow down in front of me to the extend that 2 cars behind me overtook him. All this until a up-slope, speed up with his "big" car, filter all the way to lane 3.Originally posted by ronnie_2600:......
or another example in ECP, those idiots who take lane 1 going towards rocher road and cut all the way to suntec exit just after the ERP gantry in the morning

This is the idiots you are talking about?
Guess we can write a thesis abt this... but wat's the solution, if any!? I'm afraid no amt of ERP nor accidents can eradicate this.Originally posted by ShutterBug:Let me say this, about slow traffic and general congestion on our expressways; DRIVING ATTITUDES, or MOTORING HABITS.
The simple reasons why our expressways are so congested and slow, is because of the folowing:
1) NO BODY (or rarely) gives way
2) LANE HOGGING (because on the phone or yakking with passenger)
3) UNNECESSARY LANE SWAPPING (trying to be first or in front all the time)
4) NO BODY (or rarely) signals
5) POOR OR NO PLANNED ROUTES (driving without first knowing which route to take)
6) TAILGATING (tailgatee will slow down in retaliation)
7) GENERAL INCONSIDERATE DRIVING
So, the above sums it up. However, the list could go on further...
The problem is not in the design of our roads, it's our motorists!!!
