What is a good car audio system?

I don't know anything about car audio systems.
What are the good ones and how expensive is the high range ones? I know that there are those really expensive ones like $50k and stuff, seen those on discovery channel. Those are really extreme. What I want to know is about the legal ones here.
I intend to get BOSE systems for my next car.

For me, high range are.MONOBLOCK cost bout $1k each...to power subs..
Power amps tat are able to drop to 1 omp stable..to power spks....best will be a class A amp..but class AB already very gd liao.I would say anything above 75watt "RMS" per channel is gd liao lor...not bridge hor...
Sound will be like staging very good,u can tel which instrement is playing from wat direction coming towards you, when u close ur eyes wid music playing..
Mid must be strong....can hear the sa-lai-ver sound...
i emphasies on low mid a lot...those "hit heart " sound when the woofer blend in to support.......
Last but not least, a gd tuner is a MUST !!!!!
Its lik my own set-up cheap stuff wid goos tuners, the attacking force of the bass come from the small 4" mid lik tat lor...Cos wat i wan is disco tat type of sound mah...but i dun really do SPL, jus got tat type of sound even when play at average volume. -
Try PPI or crunch for Subs ... they go good low bass ... high freq use MBqurtz ... not bad

My fd pump in abt $4K into Sony and JBK stuff in his Honda CRV. The sound is great. the music and vocal are very clear and seems like coming from the everywhere of the car.

A normal ICE consists of 4 speakers and a headunit (fei hua)
A good/average ICE consists of a mono amp , 4 ch amp , pre amp and a headunit
A Hardcore ICE system consists of a mono amp , 2 X class A/AB amps (1 for front and 1 for rear , pre amp , capacitor , headunit and a AUDIO CONTROL.
Mine is in the gd and average range IMHO ...
Just changed my sound system not long ago ...
ICE in my ride as follows :-
1) Sony CDX 5500 mp3 with remote control
2) DSL C6 6" speakers X 2
3) Lanzar 1000W 4 ch
4) Dynoquest 2 ch 600W
5) normal pre amp
6) 12" Dynoquest Bass tube

front is power by Nakamichi (dunno wat model) 75watt RMS per channel.
two 12" vega is feed by the weired looking sony amp, look lik star or got 5 side tat one.say 800watt but dunno hv or not..lolx...
on alpine head unit. no pre-amp cos my the alpine head unit can tune already..

al wires i use is tis brand "Cable Talk"....can be found on net or if u tiong home entertainment system , u sure heard of it.
Well, from my personnal experiance, is not say u put gd stuff, the sound will come out best, or get big woofers feed by powerful amp, the sound come out will be nice,cos tat wil be noise liao lor..hahaha... i would say its still the tuners....they match the low freq from woofers to support the mid bass..tats where the magic lies.... not simply hook up some woofers wid amp den the will hv good sound....
Its lik no matter which techno/eurotrance/dance music i play in my player, the bass tat come out is sure to be like the 10 yrs ago that Sparks Disco at Takashimaya lik tat...cos i wan tat type of bass...
well, not trying to sound offensive but Mayb u go to That CD shop , get "Susan Wong"s audiophile CD,albume is >close to you-must be the audiophile refrence 192k/24bit DSP tat disc...u listen on ur system on car den mayb go Aldelphi those sell pre & power amps for home use to listen, using the same disc....den mayb u can tell wat sound is missing from ur set-up or system liao... EVA Huang's cd also not bad...can go buy.Her voice is very luring...like of Lily chen jie li, if u really go into music tat hv clarity,deapth,staging on sound system, u will who are the person i refering to.

I'm a genesis fan. Here it goes:
Head Unit - Pioneer P90 with DSP
Amps - Genesis Stereo 100 x 1pc, Dual-mono x 2pcs & mono-block extreme x 1pcs.
Speakers - Genesis Absolute 1.2(front) Helix S6 Competition(Rear)
Woofer - Genesis Audiophile 30.1(12") x 2pcs
Capacitor - Soundstream 2farad

my opinion of a good sound system has to have a good clear treble especially when the volume high..
my current one sucks as the treble is very piercing for my ear when i bring the volume up
anyway, $5k can get me a good audio system right? i was told that speakers are not necessarily needed to be changed.. however, they are made of paper or something like that and its likely to tear after sometime... -

Good HEAD UNIT> A MUST !!!! >$850 max.i take alpine
One monoblock >for woofers >$800 or more. i will say Audison..
One amp for front > $700.> get class A if $$ permits
Power cap > $150 > 1.5 Farad
Is already very good liao lor..its jus where u get those things & whether can u get the correct set-up of sound -components only ..... the rest of the 5k get wires & den go back into pocket...
If u really into it...got the buying power, get Genisis , Audison, AutoTec , Soundstream ..these amps hv whole series from mono to brigable set-up, al at least can go down to 1 or 2 ohm stable.....Get some one u trust to do set-up for you, & get a gd tuner.Lik tat u can wet inso ur vehicle liao lor..hahaha

Still i believe the power of the Kicker Comp ... ever tested a Merc Vito fitted with 10 dry cells batt and 4 Earthquake mono amps to power 3 15" Kicker Comp ... <-- that Vito went KL for DB drag competition mah --> ... really love the bass sia

I've got a pretty well thought out value for money system in my car which my friend helped to design.
1 Alpine 9805 MP3 head unit 50W X 4
1 Alpine V-POWER 4 channel amp
1 set of MB Quart reference splits (connected to amp)
1 set Alpine Rears (connected to Head unit)
1 Alpine type S sub (bridged to amp)
I installed all of them myself and cost me bout 1500, very worth it IMO. Tho I still prefer to hear the sound of VVTL-i so I turn it off sometimes hehe..
If you going for uprange I'd recommend DENON, its really good + a tarantula amp.. -

actually,car audio all depend what u want .whether SQ,SQL or SPL.and all no your $$$ , 1k,2k,or 3k even 10k.how much u wanted to spend .what type of sound u want clever sound or loud bass.and the installer .how he/she installed your car audio,and chosing of speaker ,mid, component, subwoofer and matching of amp and speakers,subwoofer ,subbox or sound proof .eg: if u spend 5k ,the installer never install for u correctly.then the sound won't be good.guys don't fool by the installer.
