Dear Forumers, Not sure if any of you try refuelling in spore vs malaysia.
I did as malaysia pricing is 50% of spore. But only concern is the quality.
The gasoline in Malaysia seems to smell more esp if further away from Spore.
Rumoured some stations are using temporay ron booster like mmt or plutocen to increase their ron. However, the effects are temporary and may cause the
ron to deteriotate if exposed to hot conditions.. Do experience some difference in power from filling in Malaysia vs Singapore too.
Not sure if any have more infomation on the above subjects of ron additives to share ?
Any comments would be appreciated. Thxs in advance..
malaysia uses 92,97
I dun think they uses additives to up the RON level as it is quite highly unlikely u can reopen once petrol is stored underground.
The difference in petrol pricing is due to the fact that malaysia do have some fuel minning sites and the diff. exchange rates being that our curency are much stronger compare to them. This happen too if you compare with thailand and indonesia which do have their petrol subsided by their respective government.
As for going into JB to pump, I personally do not practise such behaviour. No point risking just to pay that little amount cheaper.
Cheers.
Much Thxs for yr reply. Do give me some comfort.
However, I went to the website to do some research on ron booster additives. Apparently, these could be added after the gasoline oil comes out of the refinery. ie in the containers or tankers etc.. These additives could cause the quality to go down upon prolong exposure to heat and also change color !!!
Check with the petrol stations near City Square. Apparently, their supplies are from Singapre thus maybe more stringent quality. Those further away are maybe from other sources..
Guess you are right, not worth saving a few cents there. Interesting is not sure if there are controls on such thing..
Found more new matter during research ...

MMT in
MMT is a manganese containing metallic additive that is blended
into some gasoline to increase octane number. Gasolines blended
with MMT offer no performance advantage beyond gasolines of the
same octane number without MMT. Gasolines blended with MMT
have shown to reduce spark plug life and reduce emission system
performance in some vehicles.
DaimlerChrysler Corporation recommends
using gasolines without MMT. Since the MMT content of
gasoline may not be indicated on the pump, you should ask your
gasoline retailer whether or not his/her gasoline contains MMT.
It is even more important to look for gasolines without MMT in
Canada because MMT can be used at levels higher than allowed in
the United States.
Some gasolines that are not reformulated for low emissions contain
an octane-enhancing additive called methylcyclopentadienyl manganese
tricarbonyl (MMT); ask your service station operator whether
or not his fuel contains MMT. General Motors does not recommend
the use of such gasolines.
Not much promising data on gasoline additives.. Hope we do not have it in our gasoline... Happy reading..
