AUTOCARS MAG. DIESEL CARS?!

  I just bought a copy of Autocars last night and saw many other cars coming out in diesel. Will singapore bring them in?
  
  Audi, BMW, Merc, jaguar, <-- All these cars running on diesel.
  
  Will they be in singapore or not? Because I'm about to change a car soon like i said in previous thread.. If i buy a new petrol powered car, it will definitely lose its resale value because everybody will be changing to diesel powered cars.. What should I do now?
  
  Anybody has accurate information on these diesel cars?

  You can import them on your own if you want, but the diesel tax is 6 times the road tax of the car and payable in addition to that. LTA says it won't change this because it's concerned about microns emissions from diesels.

  bullshit from lta lah. otherwise how do you explain the so many cabs and commercial vehicles on our road? what about those from malaysia? mind you, these vehicles spend a lot more time on the road than normal cars.

  Well .. LTA is outdated ...
  
  but then not surprise as LTA is always slow and spend unncessary $$$ in some "Innovative" technology to "improve" our road system into "World class" transportation hub.
  
  Then again .. as far as I know newer generation of diesel is very much efficient and the emission could be as good as a petrol driven car.
  
  For standard .. Singapore cant match closer to even Europe, Japan or USA. We are always the follower of their emission standards.
  
  Cos there is no expertise here in LTA to set the "so-call" standards.
  
  Only when things break ... then they look into it - "Reactive" organisation.

  If the commercial vehicles were forced to run on petrol, the running costs would skyrocket! Diesels have better economy and low-end torque hence they are ideal for load-lugging activities. And the LTA have allowed CNG buses and cabs on the roads.
  
  Mind you, I've written a column in the papers trying to convince the LTA of the benefits, and I'm just as disappointed.

  Newer Diesel Engine release lesser CO2 but generally release more particles (Dust) and NOxx ... as read from some articles.
  
  So far .. only European have better diesel engine design I can see and read cause they are the only region that have vast interest in Diesel powered engine.
  
  As for the one running in Singapore .... I would safely says .. all are old design engine with lots of bad emission

  Ya, I tend to believe that european diesel engines are better. My company van is a new Opel Combo and its got a Euro4 diesel engine but when I drag the van at 2nd gear, it emits lots, and I mean lots of black smoke...ok so it may spew out less CO2 but when people see the black smoke, they will say it's dirty and pollutes the environment.
