Optra-
Quite clearly the Optra is targeted at the Toyota Corolla, currently the best-selling car in the world with annual sales in excess of a million units annually.
It measures up quite impressively in most areas except the engine, which is not as refined. The Optra is also slightly longer than the Corolla, and it looks sleeker and more sophisticated.
Laser
Performance wise, the Laser feels the same as the previous model. Its 16-valve engine that sports double overhead cams and its 106bhp output compares favourably with most of its rivals. This engine is mated exclusively with a 4-speed automatic transmission, as there is no manual gearbox option. The ensemble works well together, giving the Laser a sporty nature rather than a one of quiet and refinement.
On the inside, the dashboard architecture is unchanged from the last model, which was first launched in 1998. On the other hand, the fabric on the seats and door panels is definitely a grade higher than in the last car. Instead of a thin, coarse fabric, it now gets a thick and plush beige velour that is more often found on much larger cars.
