3 hurt when workshop worker crashes customer's car in joyride
AN EMPLOYEE from a vehicle workshop took a customer's car out for a spin and crashed it on Saturday.
It is believed that the 24-year-old employee does not have a driving licence.
The car, a Subaru, collided with a motorcycle and a multipurpose vehicle before it mounted a road kerb and crashed into a tree.
It then burst into flames.
The accident happened along Upper Changi Road East near the junction of Simei Avenue at about 12.20pm.
Police confirmed that the driver of the Subaru and the motorcyclist suffered serious injuries and were taken to the Changi General Hospital.
The passenger in the front seat of the Subaru, believed to be the driver's 16-year-old colleague, was also taken to the hospital, reported Lianhe Zaobao yesterday.
The driver of the multipurpose vehicle and her child escaped unhurt.
The Subaru, which was over a year old, had been sent to the workshop for waxing and polishing.
A 40-year-old security guard, known only as Mr Sulaiman, who works in a nearby building, told Lianhe Zaobao he ran out to see what had happened after hearing a loud crash.
He saw smoke and flames shooting from the car and ran to get the fire extinguisher to put out the fire.
He said the driver of the Subaru and his passenger were thrown out of the car on impact. Both were injured but conscious, he added.
The police are appealing for eye-witnesses to contact them on 1800-547-1818.
