A new generation car that does not rely on petrol....

Just a thought..... The big car companies should be investing billions of dollars to invent cars that do not rely on petrol anymore...
We have had the experimental hybrid cars but it seemed that for "some protective reasons", the cost of these cars were made to be so expensive so that petrol-driven cars do not become obsolete.
Think about it! I think all the oil companies are dreading the day when this fantasy turn into a reality!
But for the time being, they are having a field day increasing and decreasing the price as and when they like it by citing reasons such as "due to increase in world oil prices". -
There are already people making use of current petrol engine to run on Hydrogen. Meaning petrol engine been modified to run on water. Go seach on internet about hydrogen engine.
Petrol seller of course are afraid of these. They are willing to spend BIG BUCKS to cover/cut-off these ideas.
Maybe 1 day, someone invent a engine running on air or sea water? Will Ministry of Envoirnment place a huge tax on this type of "Air or Sea water" engine? -
Actually, technology took a wrong step when they came up with the internal combustion engine.
