The engines were basically the same as used in the E10. Water cooled in line four cylinder engines A10 and A12. The A10 capacity is 1988 cc (bore x stroke = 73 x 59 mm) The engine, although not modern with its 6 main roller bearings and cosworth rods, is long-lasting, flexible and easy to work on. The A12 has a 1871 cc version of the engine (bore x stroke 73 x 70 mm), with 5 main bearings. The rated power output of both engines was lower than figures given for the E10 model. The A10 engine was down to 200 hp (din) and the A12 to 270 hp (din).
Both engines had three stage carburetors made by Hitachi, some cars for the japanese market were fitted A14 engines with quad carburetors.
The engine number is stamped in the block on a ledge below cylinder no. 1, the number is preceded by either A10 or A12 depending on the capacity.
Front suspension was by McPherson struts and A-arms, rear suspension by trailing arms and coilovers. The estate had a leaf sprung dead axle with heavy loads in mind.
