smelly air con

need help leh...
my car when on air con after starting up got this funny stale smell leh...
sometime got sometime no have.... funny lor....
how come ah? especially when under hot sun more chances of having the smell leh... -
Something is dying inside there.
Try opening the vents full, don't switch it on. Blow it dry. Possibly some moisture in there trying to escape. -

there is no permanent solution but you can goto CAS for a 2 stage aircon servicing where they use chemical to wash down the evaporator and tat will take care of the foul smell.
or u can use an air ioniser which also works quite well.
one thing though, if u hv those cheap car perfume, get rid of them. rancid can b created. rancid is also created when u spill stuff like coffee/ drinks/ etc in the ride. -

Errrr, try parking in a sunny spot with your doors open.

What I do to combat moisture and smelly aircon:
>> Buy and break open two or three packs of Thirsty Hippo dehumidifier packs inside your car.
These should last about 3 months.

Mildew in condenser. Before reaching home or office wadeva, switch to ext air intake for a while to dry out the condenser esp on a dry day. parking the car under sun wont really help, need to have dry air blown thru. Also, if u carry stuff which smells v strong ie durian etc right, try to drive with window down and air con switch to ext air also so the smell wont stick inside the condenser. dunno why hot day smell worse tho maybe condensation inside the thing. can also change air con filter if needed (inside dashboard one), some got nice scent. hope this helps.

Dun know if the smelly smell is the same as mine but ask you a question k, do you use air fresherner that is place directly at front of a/c vents? if you do, remove the scent and leave for a few days, mine disappeared after about a day ... taught to me by my friendly a/c service guy. didn't service receiver drier or condencer etc...try it and let us know...

u make out with ur GF in the car is it.....knn.....all the sex smell all linger into the air con.....
try other places la....don't keep using the car for sex lor......kauz.....
Or can flush it with some Dettol...good for removing smell.... -

If i'm not wrong the smell comes directly from your cooling coil. You might want to go to a good technician and have it removed and cleaned.

All those car fresheners aren't going to remove the smekk, they just mask it. And once the air freshener runs out, it's square one again.
The best and only remedy is; reduce humidity inside vehicle. Humidity levels in Singapore is generally very high, usually above 60% at the lowest. In days like now, we're experiencing up to 80% humidity levels. Therefore, the air inside your vehicle is more than likely to be the same as oustide once you open the door. It takes hours for humidity level to drop once you shut the door and place two packs of 700ml Thirsty Hippo packs inside. And even this, will only reduce humidty inside to around 50% or below. Obvisouly, more dry packs you place inside car, the lower the humidty level will become.
Smell comes from airborne bacteria, which collects in your aircon, and the ducts. If humidty is low, these particles cannot adhere to the walls of the aircon ducts, but the internal coils cannot be helped apart from periodic cleaning or servicing.
Buying and installing a mini air-revitilizer helps remove particles that're in the air inside your vehicle, trapping them inside the fragrant solution in the revitalizer. Currently I use GoodAire's Car Revitalizer which is simply working wonderfully well. Dust and dirt particles are effectively trapped in the solution, and I simply pour it away and mix up a new batch each day in morning.
The 2 to 3 Thirsty Hippo packs ensure that the interior humidity is kept low while driving and parking overnight. There's even NO sticky feeling on my steering wheel. in the morning, everything inside feels smooth and dry, and no smell. I can even still smell the new car smell after one year of use!
These Thirsty Hippo dry packs lasts about 3 months, and is relatively cheap. No smell can last long inside my vehicle. With the air-revitilzer running, it can process away any odour in under 30 minutes. You can bring a fresh pack of Nasi Bryani in, and the smell will disappear after about 15minutes. NO smell can linger - even fart.
It's the the combination of the dry packs and air-revitilizer.
One note of caution though: if you insist on smoking inside your vehicle, NOTHING will work to remove the smell of stale ciggarette smell. Cigarrette smoke contains chemicals that will stick to all surfaces in minute quantities and assumulates over time. Those who smok inside their vehicle, will find that their aircon becomes less and less cooler over time, and a dreaful smell develops after 6 months.
I'm a smoker too, and I always step out of my vehicle to puff.
