the altis club has caught up with us. this shows that our forum has not been as active as before...

do you think it is safe for an orange march to be zipping around in Malaysia. I am thinking of going up North to KL but was warned that my orange babe may attract unnecessary attention. -

some sweared that it is absolutely safe as long as you do some basic precautions and practice common sense. one such person is the editor of wheels magazine (that $2 big thin mag you find everywhere), he wrote an article about this recently.Originally posted by starrie:hi guys,

my thinking:

a. the march costs something like a whopping RM$140K there, its an expensive car by their standard
b. the march is very flashy, cant avoid not noticing it
c. if you are not familiar with the roads and traffic, like customs, may be quite challenging, unless you like challenges
d. the car thieves there are omnipotent, they can steal any car with any security, as long as you are targeted. the methods can include hacking your security systems, hack your locks or even towing or lifting your car entirely. car can be gone in 60 seconds.

a. there may be no market yet for car thieves on this model, the popular ones i read are harrier, lexus, some mpv models and the more ex ones (some cheap ones they also want though)
b. the march is too flashy to be stolen and move on the road
c. the elegance model has slightly more advanced security due to the RFID/proximity stuff, letz hope the thieves dunno how to crack yet. they used to be able to scan and duplicate the laser or radio frequency of ordinary remote controls nearby when the owner presses his beep-beep.
if you have to drive up, can do some basic precautions like:
a. get steering lock
b. park IN someones house you know
c. park head in with wheels completely steered to one side and lock the steering wheel (to avoid towing)
d. if go short break like dinner, esp night, make sure you have line of sight of your vehicle
e. when driving, dun go too fast (driving is standard practice)
etc etc

i have been up north very frequently and so far nuttin happened (touch wood). only stares (i hope its admiring stares and not those from the thieves) -

me again...sorry for the missing act....couldn't make it to the last April's gathering at sentosa, which I'm sure was a whole load of fun...
Then this week...sigh..can't make it to the QB event too cos got work to do...
Will be doing car display set up of some sort at my office......
QB sounds like an interesting event, good exposure for marchie club....

about a month ago, heard from the radio that Stamford Tyers were giving 90% off tyer prices beng the anniversary celebrations and also buy all 4 tires will get one free.

.really sian, got a ura carpark coupon for puting the wrong dateon sat frm the SIR carpark !!! $30 bucks for a wrong date.......i ask the driver in the car wht the date n time n i believe he also did the same but he had no summon, so unfair....even i asked the parking attendant why she did not summon the other car who also put the wrong date !!!
SO HATE THE PARKING ATTENDANTS !!!!

hey pple, so for the sat event, we park in the hdb hub carpark first izit?? no idea which side is NTUC, Cold Storage i know... any specific point to gather like B1 or B2?? Hope the stickers not damaging to our paintwork...

ok guys, here are the details after discussions with Qb yesterday:
1. 0830 (time pushed fwd, sorry guys) -> we meet at Toa Payoh multi storey carpark top most level (the roof top if no rain), this will be our staging area
2. 0830 - 0915 -> slap on the stickers all over our cars & mission briefing
3. 0915 - 1000 -> convoy Toa Payoh (route already pre planned)
4. 1000 -> Qb outlet official launch when we return.
5. 1000 - 1045 -> we hang around, join the crowd, see lion dance bla bla
6. 1045 - 1130 -> another rounding Toa Payoh
7. upon our return -> buffet lunch either at Yam Cha or Sakura
the lunch catered at $20 per head. each will also be rewarded with another 2 x $10 hair cut coupons. most importantly our Marchies club reputation is escalated higher!
the stickers are safe on our car paint works, dun worry. i will test it myself when i collect them on friday.
will be good if we can have like another 5 more marches. come on what are you guys waiting for? -

To Starrie,
I have driven many times to M'sia in all types of cars and I find that it is generally safe. I can tell you about some stories which I heard but it would take too long.
In summary,
Do not: Sleep, be dozy, pick up hitchhikers, be tempted to buy stolen goods (eg Rolexes) in car-stops, quarrel with M'sns (they naturally dislike us). Also speed, especially during downpours, and bribing or 'settling' fines. Try not to drive in KL unless you are familiar with the roads. Take a taxi or the LRTs
Do: stay within speed limits, at least within + 10%, obey all steet signs eg accident areas, work-in-progress, slippery when wet kampong or school areas etc. Always lock your car.Keep a spare key with your partner. Keep to ypur lane, especially at night in single lane 'expressways'
The greatest danger is falling asleep, so don't drive at night or too late, keep yourself occupied if you are feeling sleepy, eg check instrumentation, adjust air-con, radio eat sweets, move around just to keep awake!!
If you are driving in a convoy, try to use a place that is not too popular as a meeting place.
Msia is a good place for driving and exploring around. There are many places to visit, beaches, mountains, cheap hotels, good and different food etc. also petrol is subsidised. If you are confident you can even drive to Phuket but first Msia

- is the carpark u mentioned the one near the HDB hub, behind a row of shop houses?
- jus wondering hor...whether we need to inform any authority abt our marchies parading the road with some sort of advertisement? (cos from what i understand the recent moomoo campaign on buses and cabs, they hv to inform LTA/TP...)
- should we come in our March club black polo tee? For the benefit of those who didnt have one yet, can someone with the polo tee stock, pls bring them along for sale?
