dont switch on aircon and dont wind down window? that will probably be a motivating factor to drive faster so u can get out of the car soon!Originally posted by ditzy:Don't switch on the air-conditioning.
Don't wind down the windows.
aircon takes power.... windows down creates drag on car, weighin it down..Originally posted by wuming78:dont switch on aircon and dont wind down window? that will probably be a motivating factor to drive faster so u can get out of the car soon!![]()
it is more fuel efficient to keep the engine running at constant rpm such as 2000rpm @ 60kph than letting the car coast and then accelerate... the power needed work against inertia when start is the most than when maintaining it....Originally posted by cornyfish2000:By the way on driving habits and fuel consumption, i've been wondering-
Is it more fuel efficient to:
i) drive at an average speed of 50kph with a very light right foot and letting the car coast (foot off accelarator pedal) sometimes; or
ii) drive average 70-80kph, heavier right foot but u'll reach your destination sooner so less time spent with engine on?
I guess the important point here is which gear you are in when you are doing these speed. If you engine is powerful enough to let you cruise at 50kph at the highest gear, then it would be more FC wise in the first option.Originally posted by cornyfish2000:By the way on driving habits and fuel consumption, i've been wondering-

Hmmm i'm driving an auto car which does not give any indication of what gear is currently engaged leh..Originally posted by wbucket:I guess the important point here is which gear you are in when you are doing these speed. Key points to note. The rpm of cruising. Amount of pedal depression. Cause if your rpm is low, engine low power, trying to accelerate even by a little will depends a flooring of the pedal. I guess most expressway have up and down slopes. Efficient shifting of gears would be better than just keep a constant pressure at a fixed gear.
For an auto, I would think that there isn't much of a difference, whether its in P, N, D when the vehicle is stationary. Because when its stationary, I am very sure the clutch is disengaged. But in P, the gears are not clutched and locked, in N, and D, the gears just not clutched.Originally posted by cornyfish2000:Hmmm i'm driving an auto car which does not give any indication of what gear is currently engaged leh..
Oh and is it recommended to shift the gear level to P or N when stopping at red lights, or simply to keep it in D with the brakes depressed?
Not recommended. For auto cars, your gearbox will suffer.Originally posted by cornyfish2000:Hmmm i'm driving an auto car which does not give any indication of what gear is currently engaged leh..
