HI.
I think this subject has been discussed before..but since Im broken hearted n confused.I may as well write sumthing to while away de hurt.
AWD n 4WD are not exactly same..the japs came n proliferate the true meaning of 4wd..
In todays 'terms, AWD refer to cars wz ALL TIME WHEEL .meaning all de 4 wheels are driven independently by drivetrain. Normal cars its jus the front two. eg. are REX,Impreza TS , EVOs , Audis Quattro, sum SUVs, Volvo S60R,V70R
4WD mainly reer to real car that go off-road..meaning the car can be driven on 2 front wheels..but inf de need arised, the driver can choose a lower ratio.a separete gearshift..and engaged all 4 wheels..like those 3 tonnners, jeeps, pajeros, Old vitaras..Land rovers..
Thing with AWD/$WD is that they are heavy ,consume more fuel n once break down, it cannot be towed..it has to be lifted up.
my 0.02cents...n now ..back to sad songs..
p.s pple think AWD are real safe becoz of extra traction.or S-AYC but the AWD is only as good as the rubber. be Safe!! ( corny!! )
