Engine Oil Overfilling

Hi People,
I have this question in mind for some time now; what happens, if you over fill your engine oil a little pass the full mark on your dipstick? Any harm?
I notice a brownish stain around the rim of my chrome exhaust tip. Is there oil burning going on?
Your kind advise will much appreciated. -
no probs unless u rev ur engine to high rpms. the oil will never rise high enuff to flood ur combustion chambers. even at high rpms, there is a bleeder tube in ur valve cover for excess engine oil to be directed back into ur intake for it to be combusted along with the a/f mix. typical symtoms of oil burning will occur but it does no damage to the engine except make ur engine feel sluggish.

I'm a stickler for ensuring my engine oil never runs low, and that it's fresh - change em every 7000Km.

btw, i change mine every 5000 kms. 4.5 liters of full synthetic. blows a hole in my wallet everytime

Yeah, using full synthetic does blow a hole each time.
Tactically, I started by buying two 4 litre packs, then use half of each bottle to top up, leaving two bottles with about half left. On the or before the next change comes around I will add two three bottles of those small 0.5 litre packs to make up 4 litres. This way, it only costs half of a full bottle every subsequent change.
Of course, I would also use some additives, and would fill up the the large bottle to the brim, so that it will always be about half left after changing oil. I just need to top up the difference.
Works for me always. Should try it out. -

10k cannot make it lah. u not heart pain i heart pain for my engine leh. by that time u drain the engine oil come out black black one. i muz say that i dun exactly drive like a wuss and i do track my car once in awhile. under the given scenarios on top of urban driving, the oil would have lost much of its protective and lubricative qualities before the expiry of the 10k mark. ever noticed how much smoother ur engine runs after an oil change? thats why i keep my engine happy with more frequent oil changesOriginally posted by Praetorian111:relax la..recommended is 10,000 km leh....
