Any advise from the experienced car forum readers here on the source of the noise and whether it poses a threat to my safety?

err, engine can start without hicccups, rite? engine sucks air when its running, rite? got air sucking sound also logical, rite? no worries as far as the signs tell. IMO, if ur engine not sucking air, then u got a real problem

the other thing u may wanna check is for leaks in ur vacuum pipes, air box and funnel. any breakages in these places will usually result in a louder induction note. can check on ur own if u have some idea of ur engine layout. but if u are a complete idiot to ur own car, then probably gotta pay someone to do it for u...........
