Advice on Cars (technically)

Hi, I hope to get some advice about "car enhancements". Actually, it's my boyfriend's coming birthday and I was just thinking if I should get him something for his new car (he's a car fanatic and always talking about car projects). However, I am quite clueless about the technical stuff and have no idea how or who should I seek directions from. I've heard him mention stuff like Hondata, cam, volk racing but seriously, i have no idea what are they. Is anyone able to offer some advice on what would be practical and perhaps within a budget of 1.5k?

first of all, it would help if u began by tellin us wat car he drives, wat he already has so dat we can tell wat he needs. can only tell from ur post that he probably drives a honda.

he just got a Honda Integra..I guess u're right about spending the amount and eventually it's gonna be sold..But I've run out of ideas on what to get him..and since this is his passion, I just hope it'll be a nice surprise

a budget of 1.5k would likely fit to a new HKS Turbo or the tuning package at Garage R......

1. Where to purchase? Can do it online?
2. Do the items have like different fit for different car models?
3. How does the HKSTurbo enhance the car performance? Is it the horsepower or maybe something like produces those engine sound? -

ceecookie is talking crap. turbo will cause u alot of trouble.
get him a body kit or something. whatever u do don't add performance parts cos it will void the warranty. -

If you want to install a aftermarket Turbocharger it may void the warrenty and will have high maintanece cost as the Turbo need to be serviced every fre years...just go for bodykits to have to nice exterior looks...if u want engine mods but dun want high maintanence cost, go for K&N filter and those small mods to reduce fuel comsumption....if u want the sound as said in 3) u can install those sound thingies that give u the sound....for more info buy the latest Car mags, they have the mod parts in those last few pages....... -

dun mind little cookie. he's a lil kid with too much info stuffed into his head. unfortunately, half of it is rubbish. 1.5k cannot even buy u a decent intercooler for a turbocharger.
y not buy him a set of nice, shiny mugen strut bars (front and rear)? costs juz over half of ur budget and gives the car a performance boost in terms of handling. best lookin thing u can add in an engine bay IMO. and if u are lucky, can actually sell it 2 get some money back when he decides to sell the car. or a set of defi meters with matching hood and link control unit? set u back juz under 1.5k and u can transfer these over to another car when the day comes.
plenty of nice ways 2 surprise ur bf besides buyin expensive gifts. specially if its cars, really not much meaning 2 the gift coz u can't really put a value on performance parts for cars. -

Actually I am kinda keen on the set of nice, shiny mugen strut bars that Tail had mentioned (tho i havent had the slightest clue what's that for..i mean, what's handling? hmm...but it sounds cool anyway..)
Tail, can i order this online or do i like walk into a workshop or something and ask from them? Hmm...
I get your point about plenty of other choices for a gift..but each time it's like a "thanks-i-appreciate-it" kind of look and forgotten very soon...I know it's not like he's mean, but guys being guys..well..hmm..
This time around, I'm hoping to give him a neat gift...an unexpected one..
I can already imagine that look on his face...(u wont believe when i say he's a car fanatic, he really is an extreme one)
Anyway, I think it's a Type R DC5 if I'm not mistaken.. -

Just out of curiousity - Will there be a point where there is already all there is that can be added to the car? What i mean is..the person modified or enhanced until the ultimate stage and then he is satisfied and stops? Hmm..
