I'm new here. Been asking around and no one seems to know whether the Carbon Fibre Bonnet is legal or not? Anyone care to share me some light?
Thank you
Lta will ask you to write in with stretches of the bonnet, plus whatever spec and things to them...... Call them better, they will reply in the hour. Email, 3-4 weeks.Originally posted by sir2yrv:Oic....so guess its still risky then to have it. Tried to ask LTA but haven't got an answer....Thanks...
no wad. i thought is if u buy DC5R with HID frm factory its allowed but if u buy DC5R without HID then u install ur own then it's illegal?Originally posted by CryoGenic:Just like HID. If you buy a DC5R that comes with HID from factory, it is allowed. But let say you get a DC5GSR with no HID and install your own HID, its technically illegal. But not logical what? It's the exact same model of car, just that engine and tranny different.

I know some people have discussed that CF bonnets fail to crumple but shatter instead upon impact and thus it is definitely illegal. But although that is logical, it doesn't mean it's the stand LTA takes.

So it's best to get an answer straight from them than to base on 'logic' and 'hearsay'. Some logical things may be illegal and some illogical things are legal.
I don't wish to guarantee you on it, that's why I told you its up to you. But personally, based on what my friend went through, I believe CF bonnet is allowed and would use one myself if I had the money to spare and even bring it for inspection without changing it back to stock.

help send ur car for inspection...but if a TP were to stop u for having a CF hood,
they have the right to send ur car for inspection n see if its structure is
approved...if not,u will be fine...theer r lotsa things dat are not approved...
but they just close one eye...n they close one eys, does not mean its approved
I was under the impression that DC5R came standard with HID thus I quoted a DC5GSROriginally posted by TwinTurbo_Supra:no wad. i thought is if u buy DC5R with HID frm factory its allowed but if u buy DC5R without HID then u install ur own then it's illegal?
nothing to to do with the car model. any car without HID from the factory itself cannot install HID lights.
oh ok, sorry for the misunderstanding.Originally posted by CryoGenic:I was under the impression that DC5R came standard with HID thus I quoted a DC5GSR
heh, no prob la. I'm not fully sure myself, but that was what I was told by a DC5R owner.Originally posted by TwinTurbo_Supra:oh ok, sorry for the misunderstanding.![]()
Carbon fibre should be safe coz most F1 cars are made entirely of CF and i dun think CF is weak then why would the developers want to use CF?Originally posted by CryoGenic:heh, no prob la. I'm not fully sure myself, but that was what I was told by a DC5R owner.
Anyway, it seems the onemotoring site has removed their mod guide.. maybe to update it. Perhaps they will make a clear stand on CF bonnets if they don't want to get bombarded by mails.
maybe because some manufacturers make the bonnets but they dun fit properly on the cars and that is very dangerous.Originally posted by ceecookie:Carbon fibre should be safe coz most F1 cars are made entirely of CF and i dun think CF is weak then why would the developers want to use CF?
