celica is not a slow car, u are biased, u keep saying it is slow. u must remember that it hp output is the same as b18, and peak hp is at a lower rpm.
why dun u say b18 is slow!!!? becos in ur heart, vtec is king,god & whatever u can think of!

Haha amusing thread. But I must say the Thread Title was a little provocative...so I guess celica fans might take it the wrong way.
Anyway, I've driven an Evo 7, DC5, WRX, Celica SS2 and Rx8 and had the fortune of owning 3 of the above mentioned cars previously.....
well I guess all the cars have their good and bad points...no point comparing which car more powerful and which car faster...becos there is always a faster car than yours.....and if you wanna talk about mods and pro-tuning, then it will be an endless debate.
There will be people who would love your car or hate your car no matter what car you drive, so I think it is pointless to argue becos if you hate a car....face it you would hate it no matter what others say about it....and if you love a car...well you're entitled to your own opinion and you would probably stick to it.
I've always kept an open mind about cars....used to hate WRX but when I drove my friend's car for a week when he was out of town....It was a really fun car to drive.....and quick as well.
On the topic, stock to stock, the DC5 is of course faster. But I loved the celica 'cos it looked kindof fierce with bodykits and all. Out of topic but I went to Sepang once and raced a stock WRX using a DC5 and an RX8 both stock. And I actually lost to the WRX in the DC5 but beat him in the RX8....was quite amazed...but maybe driver factors came into play?.....dunno......

For the current model of toyota celica.. no future, I agree with tat. Maybe they should change the drivetrain to FR instead of FF in the future model to come might spell better response.
MR-S, this 1 I dun really get y no future. The drivetrain is MR, how much better can u get?? Itz the best (IMO) 2wd drivetrain out there. The chassis is light. The only flaw is tat only the engine not enuff power (MR-S, S = small?? 138hp NA compared to the bigger boys out there) and itz a convertible (personnel opinion). Maybe bcos the price(compared to MX-5, S2000)?? -

Of yeah before the Supra was using the V8 engine in JGTC... it was using a 2.0 Celica 3S-GTE engine modified by TTE and used in supra to beat the much higher cc NSX.
Saw a few video from Japan racer, stock MR-S handles better than the current version stock normal celica. -
You should check out Japan's Techno Spirit's MR-S race car, fully lightened and tuned and using a STOCK celica 2ZZ engine... that car could keep up with the tuned turbocharged Silvia's on the track. Saw it in one of the Best Motoring videos.

all i can say is dat toyota really took a step back from their respective predecessors. the MR2 and the previous celica gt were decent rides with loads of potential. sure, the MR drivetrain is a big plus pt for the MRS, but offering it in convertible only serves to decrease the potential of its chassis in terms of rigidity and make it more of a "looker" rather than a "performer". fortunately enuff, the chassis is light enuff 2 be propelled decently by a pathetically low engine output. other than this, i dun really see a future for it unless toyota decides to inject either models with a serious dose of steroids.Originally posted by Boo777:For the current model of toyota celica.. no future, I agree with tat.
