The other time i was pumping up my nissan, there was still the 25% discount. Therefore many car owners all DIY themselves. However, a thought came across my mind. Let's say someone after pumping and then just get into the vechicle, start-up, then zao, what can the attendants do.

The offence committed is theft, a criminal offence. The CCTv will capture your vehicle number and the Police will do the rest.
Sorry no discount for petrol theft. -

If anyone should harbour this insensible urge to pump petrol then drive off without paying for it, I'd suggest you just walk into any Police station, find an officer and punch him in the face.
This will also surely guarantee some time behind bars. -

Is it automatically handled as a criminal case? My best friend's wife is a doctor, and once after her shift as an intern, she was so tired she forgot to pay before driving off. Mobil sent her a letter asking for payment, she settled it with a letter of apology, and that was the end of it. That was in Melbourne, though - I don't know how it works in Singapore.

Melbourne, is Melbourne. In Singapore, it is obvious from real life examples, that you'd be assumed GUILTY until proven INNOCENT.
In Melbourne they'd send you a letter, here, they'd send you the Police. -

i think the greater extent is the proof of the party/ies extending the complaint to the police. in all criminal proceedings, the burden of proof will always lie on the prosecution to prove that the accused is guilty even in the face of prima facie evidence from cctv recordings and eye witnesses that the driver did not pay.Originally posted by ShutterBug:Gedanken,

think melbourne ppl are not stupid in this case. send letter, may get paid. complain police, fella can claim slip of mind/ignorance/under intoxication/emergency at home etc.... and the prosecution's case goes haywire in the absence of the accused's mens reas.

Even if petrol station are cheap, after 9/11 anything place with dangerous stuff, like petrol stations is sure require by law to have cameras covering all pumps. Even the petrol tanks are now monitor by GPS , do you think government left out such a big possible bomb without any cameras . -
my fren work part time in the petrol kiosk n he told me the staff got to share the cost of tat ass who zao. usually total amount is $20, split among 4 or 5 worker. juz blame tat u unlucky lor. if amount is big, maybe 50-80 then they report police.

They will send u a letter, if u did not pay up within the days given they will alert the police. Hope this help.
