Advice on getting a van

i'm thinking of getting a second-hand kangoo. Wondering how much are the expenses such as road tax, insurance etc?? I heard that the maintenance fees are higher than a car due to the fact that it drinks diesel instead of petrol, how true is this?? What are the things i need to know abt owning a van?? I have no problem registering the van under a company name.
and i'm wondering if kangoo is a better choice?? best is to hear some advices from those who currently own one. Thx. -

I know now LTA ruling is that you need to have a company in order to buy a van.
But is it possible to register a bogus company, as in, just go ROC register a company without really using it, just an empty company and use it name to buy a van? Is it possible?
Anyone can enlighten me?

imho, the vw caddy handles much better than the citroen berlingo.
go test drive and they can advise you on cost and registration. i think you can reg. under individual now. they even have those with glass windows on the rear.
most of the 2nd hand has high coe (abt 15k) i think, so you might want to consider new. -

Well, the new caddy got 2 version,SDI 1.9l & a 1.9l PD tdi, the body is heavy.....Currently singapore do not have the vw caddy(the post-2004 model) in turbo diesel injection, only the no turbo one..so..its still underpowered!!!!

Still greater gains are to be found slightly lower down the rev range. Yes..it is possible to jus get a company...then get van...BUT, as its new company, the finance MAY be little bit hard..need to down $$.... -
how abt opel combo?? seems to be the most powerful among the LCVs... anyone can gimme more info/advice on this combo??

for me i would rather mod a Golf GTi....or mod the new R32 Gti thats going to be out soon...

But in actual fact , hv to keep up wid a base 225 wrx is never easy.....mod abit, 2nd gear on rex can pass 100km/h liao.....
turbo diesel is not say not powerful.. jus that application is different mah...the minus point is lack of rev......if hv a turbo diesel got as much rev as a petrol car....then things will be better for the diesel....
Cos for instance, a old vw caddy tdi stock is 14 sce i think, but if re-mapp or change ecu,change nozzles(injectors) is bout 7sec liao...if further mod will be better.
Turbo Diesel is bout the "stick to the seat" feeling aka torque i feel...
while petrol turbo is more on bhp...& they hv rev....
Like a civic sir doch..vtec open 5000+rpm once & at 7000rpm again....
For diesel, the rev max also is 4.5k to 5k....cos if u drive, u will know 1k of rev is alot liao & on powerful vehicle,the 1k of rev on rpm can tear the other car.
Alternatively, can search the Merc car Diesel new model in other country..600+Nm...but 0-100km/h is bout 6 sec nia... -

I can understand Deisal vans are cheap to rfuel. But I don't like the smell of diesal, and, the black smoke problem after some time. Furthermore, I don't like the idle sound of deisal - sounds just like Taxi cabs or a bus.
I think eurovans are nice looking, but not economical to maintain due to costlier parts and higher service charges at some workshops.
What's so good, about Eurovans? Just for the looks? Power but have to cope with black smoke? Doesn't equate to me. -

Maintaining them depends lah.. for me is ok ah....diesel no need spark plugs...a normal oil filter is max 13 to 18....engin oil also cheap...some times also never pass 60...
Service charge for parts is bout same lah...
For parts some quite true but parts also hv to depends wat parts lor...lik a pair of slotted/drilled rotors for van cost bout $300 whild for civic can get at $180....
Actually the pricing for some parts still is understandable lah... as frieght, the currency convert liao diff mah....& also is who make them...
Jus lik Defi & Autoguage, got same product to do same work but the price alot of diff.. -
new euro-diesel are not longer dirty and noisy as what we expect, like those japanese made ones... in fact, some of these new europeans are even more quiet and refined than some of the petrol cars we have now... maintance is not much a problem, provided it had been properly serviced... Further more with the cheaper cost of diesel and better FC and lower tax, it make more sense to some of us..
the only problem? 70kmh limit and "Stick-to-the-left-most-lane" order. -

i cannot imagine buying an OPC car and park it most of the time.
