keyless entry

i know of a couple of cars that have the keyless entry feature. common ones are the Renault Megan, Honda S2000(hardly see any in singapore though, heh).
Anymore? keyless entry is kinda cool man. just a hit of a button to ignite the engine...rawr....do tell me if i have mistaken that keyless entry also means starting the engine without using a key.

I think its keyless ignition you're referring to.
Keyless entry is like for the doors. -
keyless ignition works on a proximity card system. You get a credit sized car which you put in your wallet. When you are within proximity of your car, the car unlocks. Engine ignition is activated through a button, but it'll only work when the card is within proximity.
Mercedes Benz is generally the marque credited for popularizing this system. Perhaps you can just waltz into their showroom and ask for a demonstration on the S Class? I'm sure they'll be quite happy to oblige.
On a side note, they're available as aftermarket parts. I saw their booth at some autoshow few years back, but haven't been able to find them since. -

LOL@ hisoka. nice one la. it's not the metal(or whatever alloy/metal) key we're talking about here. the card is used in place of a key. then again...it's still a 'key' idea unless you tell me your ride uses biometric lor then i give you thumbs up.

there is also another system i've read up a while ago, just requires a thumbprint to start the engine..
it was in the news that a Singaporean businessman was driving in his merc to Malaysia, then got robbed.
frustrated that they couldn't start up the engine, they chopped off his thumb as well.
do correct me if i'm wrong. -

praticality??to me, its definitely more pratical to haf a keyless entry system..go supermarket shopping..carry alot of things..can jus open door and drive off without reaching for ur keys??? -

chill people. this topic isn't about the advantages or disadvantages of keyless entry. it's about cars that have the keyless entry feature. but...point taken

Ya at times things are best in the practical way cause with this type of fingerprint system there could be only one person to start and drive the car, he would not be able if anyone else wants to drive the car. He person who resigters his finger print must be around to let others drive his car.

yeah..my opinion is dat keyless is conveninient..havent experience any 'cons' of using a keyless entry car..im using it on a latio btw..you might wanna consider safety (of your car) as one factor..coz initially i was sceptical abt keyless entry too..coz it doesnt give me security..to enter a car without keys..but if u find out more from the manufacturer?? they'll explain to you why it is safe enough -

anyway the programming not to let say 3 pple be pre programed for entry but rather one person but provide a key for others who borrow the car -
hm...tink remualt are suing card. not sure for the others. for merc, only the mroe ex one has it. and fomr wat i know, u can press the ignition button even when the key is inside yr pocket unless renualt where one has to slot in the card.
