Yeah, get the Turbo version.......... its pretty fast on the straight, but not corners though.
At least you wun regret later on that the car lacks power.

cornering is great after adding a rear after market anti-sway bar. don't expect evo performance from a 1.3 turbo charge car. but it can beat most of the sedans (1.6L to 2L) out there on the road.
only complaints is that it only comes in auto......but for driving on roads in spore, with lots of traffic lights, it is not such a bad idea after all.

I believe the pick up is 9.0 sec for the Auto version in S'pore.
The 8.4 sec is for the manual version.

nop. there is no manual for YRV-T. the manual is only for the NA. The engine is too torquey for a manual transmission, and that is why daihatsu put in an auto gearbox to control the transmission electronically. someone in HK converted to manual, but the gearbox crash out after a day in the track.Originally posted by Ah Wei:Hi Per76,

8.4sec is stated in a couple of reviews for the YRV-T. Put in a couple of mods....and it can go down to sub 8 secs -

If lets say you race with a manual Rex....the rex can acc faster....
and also you cant rev beyond redline as i doubt the ECU allow it...
By the way may i know whats the turbo being used for it? -

if YRV-T can beat the rex, then u would be seeing more YRV-T in the road liao.
as for reving beyond the redline, nop. it can't if running in auto mode. if switch to steer shift, u can rev beyond redline, but rev cut will comes in soon after hitting past redline (like most cars have today). verified on the test drive vehicle . FYI, the 1st gear can hit 80kmh liao on stock condition. on 3rd gear, the pulling to 180kmh is also quite fast, and this car can hit >200kmh anytime with just open pod and operated exhaust .
as for the turbine, it is RHF4, and heard is from IHI. ECU boast cut at 1bar, but some pple bypass the cut and can hit 1.5bar.

I understand that there is YRV-Turbo (Manual) in other country, and that singapore STS never bring in, and that these 1.3 Turbo (Manual) pick up from 0-100km/h is 8.4sec.

I think more like Singapore not more market for manual cars. Plus Daihatsu isn't have much of the car industry pie, so better bring in auto. Anyway, I don't think the explanation about being powerful mean the gearbox spoil easily. Cause no matter what, auto gear box is always more fragile. not too sure where u got this info from, but there is no manual for the turbo, as japan daihatsu did not develop any manual gearbox for the turbo version, after managing to break a few during developing stages. if u were to say modding a car, think singaporean still has plenty to learn to catch up with HK. we are not even near, mainly because of the strict regulations and the unavailablility in parts that we have access to.
also, i do not think auto gearbox of today is fragile like it was 30 yrs back. when u last heard pple complain abt autp gearbox breakdowns now? I only heard abt CVT gearbox giving problem. and YRV-T is still using the more reliable torque convertor type auto gearbox.

I read it from the net before, and that there is a manual one for the YRV turbo, and i remembered quite clearly that the pick up is 8.4sec.
The spec for the auto one is 9sec flat in all magazine..........
If i manage to find the link again, will post it here to show. I was searching for information to but car then and came across this YRV turbo manual in one of the article. -

the 8.4 secs i read is done with torque launch and should be near empty tank.
all i came across one that local STS did not import is a JDM model with 4WD. that is going to be interesting. and it comes with recaro seats.

only the JDM comes with recaro seats and is 140 hp, 10 hp more than our local EDM imports. and yes, the JDM's are also auto. No manual, because there are no manual gearbox developed in Jap.
