hi bros,
i am driving a mazda 3 and my fc is around 9-10km/l ... so much different from the >13km/l fc others have said. why is this so? mine is the earlier batches of mazda3.. around 1+ year liao...
btw, i usually drive at 2000rev ...
go to mazdaclub and ask the bros there.. they more knowledgable..
anyway.. when u bought the car.. how was the FC? is the FC like what others have said?
do you service your car on a regular basis? how dirty is your air filter and stuff? are u on mineral or synthetic oil.. base on what ive read and other post by the people in mazdaclub, synthetic oil FC is lesser than mineral oil.
have you been checking your tyre pressure? if it has less air, there is more contact on ground.. more energy required to overcome the frictional force..
and also.. have u been doing more city driving compared to highway driving? fc on highway driving will be better than city driving..
these are the current checks that i can think of right now.. maybe more..
most ppl in any specific car forum only talk abt doing modification on their cars.
the thread on lousy FC has since been closed long ago in many forums...if i'm not mistaken.
I'm not saying FC of all Mazda3 sucks, mine is really good (compare to negative feedback in all forums), while some are really bad. I've long suspected that cars, irregardless of brands always have variation in quality. Lousy QC in Japanese production line is really unthinkable, but it may be happening...Human, petrol factors, no matter how well you control seems to improve the FC very little. Even conception Altis has good FC is also a misconception really.....FC from my 2 friends reported at <11km/L compare to 13-14 you'll always hear.
seems like taboo to write anything negative in any specific car forum, only get ppl to encourage you to spend more dough (no offence for any car forum ppl, but it's true for me)...most ppls in the forums are businessppl anyway.
what i gather from there, other good forums and my own experience to keep good FC (and if you are only any normal drivers like me..no racing, no tailgating, no chionging...:
1. dun modify unnecesarily...especially tyres
2. air intakes / chargers dun improve FC, friend tried one $400 on sunny, but no improvement
3. dun add additives
4. petrol whether v-power or 95 makes little difference in FC
5. plan your route properly, with petrol price now higher, it's wise to avoid jams..FC really sucks at long jams, <9km/L
6. pump at the station which is busier, then you'll get fresher petrol
Hope to hear of more frank contributions from ppl in this forum.
btw i've a stock Mazda3,
FC >12.6 constantly with vortex gold
rpm range 2000-3200, median 2500
FC max 14.4 NS highway
