Can you afford a car with 1500/ month???

was wondering why one of my friend could afford a swift with a take home pay of 1500. is it possible?
need advice from you guys... -

Anyway, actual car expenses goes at about S$500 per month (without car loans). Budget car, budget use. So still have 1k if he give nothing to his family. -
Calculate before its possible..... set aside 1 k per month for car and $500 for personal expenditure left with no saving in the end... the cheapest car about 40 K say kelisa or picanto or COE car
$4K+ 40 *0.02 interest /12 = $400 per month instalmetn
the rest of $600 per month for petrol ,parking, road tax ,insurance , minor maintenance

Coz I own a swift while i was in aus with tha amount of money and barely ablt to survive... but in singapore, with the coe costing more than the car value, road tax etc...I doubt his words... that's the reason y i am askin advice from the more experience ppl here to see whether is it realli possible.....

$400-$600 for installment..
$250 for petrol..
the rest for savings..
$250 for petrol isnt alot also.. average singaporeans petrol bill/mth is $300-$400 already..
im hitting the high side of $400 and low $500..
sigh.. another few more mth.. petrol sure hit $2/litre.. -
buy this can lar..... 1.5k where got money to spend on car

IMO... it really depends loh... some people consider cars as a luxury ... something which only u are rich or have surplus of money... u will buy.
Some pple love cars and its their area of interest too... they dun mind spending a big portion of their low income on it cos its their interest too.
Some people really needs the car loh for travelling.
I think with 1500 and u have no housing installments etc etc and maybe single... not really a prob buying a car... a small one.
Well perhaps ur friend likes car and he doesnt see it only as a mode of transportation loh -

Just bought a Honda City yesterday(my first car in singapore)... looking for Honda Fit initially but the @#$% PI importer's promise changes every second. so decided to get a city from authorised dealer... though the car a bit more expensive, but looks more trusworthy... at least -

My cousin's take home pay is $2300 and he is struggling with the car, his family etc... A more realistic limit to comfortably owe a car is $2800. -

Unless the car's necessary like for work or something. -
I never knew owning a car only consist of petrol and instalment.
How about season parking, outside parking, road tax, insurance, servicing and repair costs. -
