Views on Renault Megane

Hi Anyone is driving this..... got any advice to share like its FC, power or reliabilty.... Bio this car for quite some time but have always drive japanese car like honda and Nissan...... so not very familiar with Continental cars....

I owned one for almost 3 yrs and sold it off just when it hit 60,000 km
Very nice car to drive, very powerful, smooth revving engine, very good FC.
Feels very safe with so many airbags
Downside is the French technology on the fuzzy logic gearbox. When new, the gearbox is very intelligent - can rememberyour driving pattern, going round bend, downslope, etc, it can tell and shifts accordingly. that is when everything is fine and IF everything runs normally
BUT I feel theres too many sensors that gives way, and when things go wrong, it jerks when taking off, occassionally, when changing driving style, it gets confused and hesitates in changing up or down,
So I sold it when the warranty expired. Didnt want to risk paying for the very expensive gearbox which only EXclusive Auto has the parts.

to see for yourself their common faults. Dont think its anything major, just have lots of spare time to bring your car to Exclusive auto and lots of patience with them. -
the 1.4L one? heard always got electrical faults and i think normal servicing amounts to few hundred which is quite expensive compared to jap cars

Personally, I feel that the Renault Megane is probably the best 1.6l sedan one can buy in the Singapore market if you can afford it.
It's safety features and equipment level is very high especially when compared to Japanese competitors while I understand (surprisingly!) that it's fuel economy and performance also ranks up there with the rest.
I should know cos I accompanied my friend to buy one! Look for Eddie at the Bt Timah showroom and say Desmond recommended you. (sorry I don't have his tel no.) -

Buy a new car if you intend to use for 10 yrs.
Buy a used car if you intend to sell it.
My advice is not to take up 10yrs loan perios and zero deposit. -
