Im thinking of getting a car next yr but i dont really know much about them. I thought of getting 2nd hand car so i went to sgcarmart saw a few cheap not so abd looking old ones. I told my dad of my choices and he said most of the car i pick are so old that they are gonna spend more time in the workshop than on the road....
Can anyone tell me aprox from which yr onwards the cars when bought 2nd hand still can run qutie well.. i really scared my car keep breaking down and go into the workshop. thanks
Hmm... as much as concerned... There's isn't a YEAR to be specific whether it's good or not. But my comments is... look for cars on the year 2000-2002 onwards where COE has already dropped. Although it doesn't matter much as thr car scrape value will oso included. But at least u dun wanna pay too much now right? and a 3-5 year cars isn't very bad after all^^ hope this helps
My guess is 3 years old cars. And of course, the general recommendation is to get either Honda or Toyota's car.
Rather than the age, look at the mileage and service records. Also, the way the car's been driven by the previous owner is a factor - 60,000 km driven by an old granny is likely to be better than 25,000 by some punk who revs the living daylights out of the engine.
no point looking at the mileage as it can be adjusted. as for condition my advise is first to bring to a mechanic u know to do a full check on the car. this may cost some money $100-$200. once ur mechanic say passed. depending on how much u trust your mechanic, u can choose wether to bring to STA for evaluation, get the dealer to pay. If grade A or B u buy the car if C or D ask the dealer go home sleep.
As for how the car looks, a new paintwork and grooming shld make it look good. But there r cars which u can see is in very good condition juz on first look. Juz like mine.... hehe. juz bought a 2yr 8mth car.
remember to change the timing belt (whole set) and auto transmission fluid (if any) once u got ur car.
Oh and if dealer insists u pay deposit juz say u will not pay any deposit. its the buyers market now.
Cheers and enjoy ur new car. if u need help in getting a new car, pm mi i see can advise u anot. Certain delaers ask for higher prices for their car.
