tamiya: enamel vs acrylic

i'm new to modelling and the guy at the shop chose enamel for me citing that the acrylic range doesn't cover my required range...

If I'm not wrong, Enamel is oil base while Acrylic is water base.
Acrylic:
*Just use water and can clean off easily.
*Finishing is so-so
*Fast drying time.
Enamel :
*Have to use the Tamiya Enamel Thinner X-20 to clean.
*Finishing is superb, but paint layer by layer.
*Slow drying time.
IMO, Enamel is a better choice to get. Just have to practice and get the painting right.. -
IMO the acrylic range easier to handle for beginners... enamel need extra skill when painting although the results for enamel are better if properly done.

how many units of thinner to dilute one unit of enamel when brushpainting? -
I'm not sure if acrylic is easier to handle but I can't seem to use it good.
Basically, enamel is good for brush painting since it takes a longer time to cure, thus leaving no or little brush marks.
Ratio depends on how the result you want.. Maybe like 1:20.. For me, I will just shake the bottle and use the paint on the cap.. I don't even know if it is a correct way or not..

i know primer is a must for the car body. how about the details? engine parts etc... -
Up to you.. but I do usually prime the little bits so the paint can "eat" and cover better.. The only thing I don't prime is the chassis.. cause i'm lazy..
