Patching a tyre

When got nail puncture, I see the shop use a screwdriver type tool to pull a piece of rubber strip into the hole.
But I read in some foreign forums that that is not a good method to patch a leak. They said something about "vulcanising" is better?
Anywhere in Sg where the tyre is patched other than the screwdriver-rubber strip method? -
most tyre shop does it.. and most taxi drivers ask for it.
it's smthg like $5 more. and also mebbe 1/2 hr longer to do. -

best way 2 patch a leak is 2 use a tube in yr tyre...so if u get a puncture u won't need to worry about patching...just replace the tube...

can all puntured tyres be repaired?
cos today my tyre punctured, but the shop said its beyond repair. but its just a small hole leh..
caused when i strike a kerb.. lol -

dEPEND ON WHERE N HOW BIG U is the hole. I did mine often as my working place is those JTC sites

Basic guideline is that if the damage is at the sidewall cannot patch, only can patch if the small hole is middle of thread. Hit kerb.. err.. most likely critical blunt force trama liao.Originally posted by LiEr:can all puntured tyres be repaired?

I bought a kit to do that my self, the rubber strip type. Save me a lot of money since where I work is around a big construction area, nails and screws are everywhere.
Due to safety reason, most tire shop wont patch a hole bigger than 1/4 inch and less than 1/2 inch from the side wall.
I did it anyway, just put liquid rubber sealant into the tire to seal it from the inside. Works fine until today.
