in year 2002 my friend hv one, its call vtec killer, dunno same as wat u mention or not..Originally posted by tohpat:Does anyone know what is a vtec controller? what function it serve n how much does it cost to own one ?![]()
thx for those information..Originally posted by guitarman1:
Vtec controller lets u change the rpm in which the VTEC engages. This is prob only useful when you have modded your car and the profile changes, otherwise factory setting should be optimal.
If you do not know the technicalities behind VTEC, it can be found easily on the web. In short, VTEC allows the engine to use 2 different cam profiles, 1 optimised for low to mid revs and one profile for high revs which have different timing.
VTEC killer is a camshaft by Toda which takes away VTEC totally and only makes power in high rpms (meant for track). The concept is something about smoother delivery instead of having 2 cam profiles which may cause some unbalance when the profile changes.
And don't think just because VTEC come in earlier means there's more power. There has to be a sweet spot range. Engaging the high profile camlobe at 2000 rpm is NOT going to give you power. It will BOG down your engine tremendously.
A Spoon VTEC controller costs about $100 2nd hand. A more advanced controller would be the VAFC which can tune air/fuel ratio also. Cost about $200+ 2nd hand and about $380 new. The Ver 2 costs more, about $550+ new.
Stroker kit will cost you $5-7k and some ppl have complained that the engine revs are not tat smooth. It's much better to buy a B18C5 (Integra Type R 1.8 litre engine) straight and install. will only be half the price of a stroker.
Vtec controller is the same as what u explain...Originally posted by bo liao:in year 2002 my friend hv one, its call vtec killer, dunno same as wat u mention or not..
is so called to make vtec open faster(instead of the normal 5k+ & 7k+ at rpm to open)
i sit inside got abit of diff....but seriously no point lah...unless u everytime wan to play pass 100km/h....
if u really into it.. i rather u get stroker kit...can tear the normal vtec wid the so called vtec controller(if is the same as vtec kiler).
$250 is about the standard price for a second hand VAFC...Originally posted by tohpat:Found one Apexi VAFC 1 cost ard 250 without installation..bro here think is it worth it ? need advice..thx![]()
actually, the tec killas come as a kit and not just the cams. switching to a tec killer kit will require the whole valve train to be modified to remove the need for the unique tappets for individual cam profiles in conventional vtec cam.Originally posted by guitarman1:VTEC killer is a camshaft by Toda which takes away VTEC totally and only makes power in high rpms (meant for track). the main purpose of vtec killer cams is to use for FI setup...Originally posted by guitarman1:

so here i am........Originally posted by D16Z6:the main purpose of vtec killer cams is to use for FI setup...
becos they need lower CR....
whilist for vtec,if the CR is too low,the vtec wun work...
so they have this customise intake n exhaust lobe specially for FI....
correct me if iam wrong cos iam not 100% sure...![]()

the tec killer kit is not for FI applications.
if u notice, the cam profiles are much more aggressive than conventional vtec cams, geared for maximizing volumetric efficiency at high rpms in NA applications. even in FI vehicles like the evo, u seldom see duration go beyond 272 degrees. with the tec killer, u have cam durations of over 300 degrees.
vtec activation does not depend on CR.
it depends on throttle position, fuel pressure, oil pressure and water temps amongst other things. while it is true that higher CR does work better for NA applications, the two (vtec and CR) have their unique set of dependant variables working for them.
function, no.Originally posted by D16Z6:so example a Crower stage 3 cam which is for racing purpose...
it have more aggressive cam profile, does it mean that it will affect the
function of Vtec???![]()
