Subaru WRX 1.6L - Any feedback?

  We're thinking of getting a 1.6L WRX. Hubby is getting it new at a very gd discount from a friend. less than 70k on the road. Good deal or not?
  
  I really don't know anything about cars.. so would love some advice from U car owners. Is this is gd car to get for the price offered?
  
  Also I want to know if it is,
  - safe for family?
  - maintainance and servicing any problem?
  - economical on fuel?
  
  and why does this car need such a high spoiler ah? He wants to add the J-spec version with air intake and high spoiler.. is it necessary? does it help te car perform safer at high speeds?

  Its a WRX leh, of course it needs a high spoiler. The car's performance in safety is dependant on the driver's ability to handle it.

  wait a min....1.6 wrx?? or a ts....and there is no 1.6 WRX(not that i heard of)

  your model is TS. WRX dun have less than 70k onee lah. Also 4-wheel drive. Safety wise of course good. But fuel is not economical. About 8-9km/lit. If both of you like this car, then get it. I sat in one b4, very quiet and comfy. Maintenence wise, i not too sure however...
  btw, how fast you want to drive? Spoiler high is for the WRX because racing need to be fast. Your TS model spoiler should be low one. Your hubby want to change high becos some ppl like their TS to look like WRX. Plus that intake somemore, it looks even more like a WRX. PPl who are good can tell from one look even if your hubby change all that spoiler and intake.
  But i think u better chk first whether that model is TS or WRX first. WRX is 90k above, TS abt 66k.

  1.6L is a TS while 2.0litre is a WRX turbo. Which one are you refering to?? In addition which versions are you refering to?? In term of fuel consumption it hovers between 10-12 for 1.6L and 8-11 for WRX turbo.
  
  In terms of bodykits it do not add to anything in terms of safety. It is more for asethetics outlook. In general, to a guy it may be a tool that bonds himself to the car therfore your husband may find it necessary to change the outlook of the car.

  wow so fast replies! heh thanks for the correction U all.. i took a look at the brochere again.. ya its a TS .. hubby was toking so much about WRX.. got me all confused
  
  is a a good deal to get this car at less than $70k? or only so so? I was thinking wat other car is comparable to the TS at this price? and how much is it to add the J spec?
  
  Hubby wants speed and safety.. i want comfort and space.. sigh..

  guy like speed and comfy one. Dun worry abt that, a TS cant go very fast even with those add ons. But if u wan space and omfy, get a mazda3 lor. Abt the same price also...

  Get the Renault Megane instead.. better value for the same amount of money, if you're looking for spaciousness and comfort. I think it looks more classy too.. i find the subaru impreza has an ah beng reputation (Unless of course, that's what you're looking for)

  i juz sold my TS after driving almost 3yrs.
  
  Good points: handling is good, cornering good and when accident it wun crumble like normal jap cars.
  
  Bad points: high fuel consumption for a 1.6L car(10km/L), slow acceleration especially from traffic light, lousy paintwork, normal maintainence price is normal but spare parts very expensive.

  well when people talk aboput the 1.6TS 1st words that come to mind is: slow and drinks petrol with a fearsome thirst. also consider that a new model impreza is launching soon which is why he's getting a discount.
  
  and uh, if its the 1.6TS, all that spoiler and air intake does is to increase drag and thus make the car even slower and more uneconomical on fuel. plus he'd just be another wannabe with a car with no substance but trying to look the part, which is the quickest way for people to lose their respect for him, so its not what I'd do.

  anyway its just the same case as the Mitsubishi lancer and the lancer EVO ma...ok la at least the lancer is more economical which is y ppl buy it but then I still dunno y ppl buy the Ts...Looks? and 4wd?? With a car that only has 96BHP 4WD is really unecessary as it adds weight,expensive to repair and that car not as if like cannot lay the power down properly or that its a off roader wad...and even if it has 4WD it wun prevent u from Spinning out (trust me on that...i gurantee u) or getting into trouble....btu hey then again I think it has some gd pts la...which i dunno of

  another way is to buy a second hand wrx. I seen before, 70k +. If its within both your budget, and dun mind 2nd hand, then go for it lor.
  anyway, the dashboard of ts is ugly, green like taxi. wrx at least got a red needle.

  Last time I was considering TS as well..it looks nice, etc..
  
  but I thought..if i wan get a nice subaru, why dont I just go all the way..no point doing things in halves. Later will have many regrets if do things halfway.

  Anyway TS got limited bhp.. though better at handling.. if i were you, i would add a few thousands bucks and get a 1.8L turbo charged lancer : ) esp when prices are dropping these days... but i don't have a rich dad... so.. haizzzzz... have to save a bit first : /
  
  Anyway.. WRX wanabes (Ts modded like Rexes) can only cheat noobs....and for a 1.6L car, it's not cheap either, seriously over priced. just imagine you drive a "stylo milo fake WRX" then kena tear by a nissan sunny... weet..no where to hide ur face sia...

  If you are buying a ts then just leave the car the way it is. there is no shame or disgrace in a 1.6 impreza. it is quite a good car by itself. why do you need to try to make it into a wrx? once you start to do that, you lose the plot. so you add a scoop on top of the bonnet, so you change to huge STI wing, so you bought some guys wrx brakes because he upgraded his to STI brembos, so you bought his sport seat because he bought the STI seats and the STI guy bought a pair of BRIDE seats. you still need to change your dash instruments and the third brake light. do you get my point?? why bother. just stick to your car or if you are so hard up for a wrx, please go ahead and buy one.
  
  now cheap $84000, because new facelift coming out so must clear stock of old one. but after one month, you are drving old model.

  New Rex at 84K, just bite the bullet and buy it, dun even bother about a second handed one.
  
  1.6TS, spent a few K on the look fast goodies, and u might as well add another few Ks to get a real Rex. Looks fast and goes fast. Worst thing is to look fast, with go fast attitude and only a yawn inducing 99 bhp at the wheels
  
  WRX has 225 bhp VS the TS 99bhp (2.27 times more powerful than the TS), even if u don't know anything about cars, this alone will give u the idea that body apart, they are very different cars.
