Study shows speed limiters reduce road accidents

'The UK External Vehicle Speed Control (EVSC) project has made a prediction of the accident savings with intelligent speed adaptation (ISA), and estimated the costs and benefits of national implementation. The best prediction of accident reduction was that the fitting on all vehicles of a simple mandatory system, with which it would be impossible for vehicles to exceed the speed limit, would save 20% of injury accidents and 37% of fatal accidents. A more complex version of the mandatory system, including a capability to respond to current network and weather conditions, would result in a reduction of 36% in injury accidents and 59% in fatal accidents. The implementation path recommended by the project would lead to compulsory usage in 2019. The cost–benefit analysis carried out showed that the benefit–cost ratios for this implementation strategy were in a range from 7.9 to 15.4, i.e. the payback for the system could be up to 15 times the cost of implementing and running it.'

u can ovveride the limiter with RSMs...but doing so will void ur car warrenty -
I Defer with what you state. How true is this research going to hold in Singapore since this research I believe is only restrict to a particular population sample. It therefore cannot be used to generalise as Asian driving behaviour may be well difference from those of the Europeans.

Studies show that if you don't drive a car, there's almost no/little chance you'll get into a car accident.

it's worthwhile to give it a pilot trial in singapore, if outcome is highly favourable, then why not implement it,
on singapore roads, it's always safety first, time-saving second -
I think the speed limiter mentioned refer to those that you can set and change yourself, something like cruise control. You set the max speed you want for your car, and you wont be able to go any faster. CAn set it at 110km/h in SGP, but when you go up north, change it to 150km/h or something, all at your finger tip. I remember some taxis used to have a speed detector that sounded when the vehicle reached 90km/h. Mostly the older ones had it. -

No. This speed limiter is GPS controlled. It will not limit your speed once you leave the country. Speed Limiters to people in the UK, are effective because they are largely English, and also educated or at least are in possesion of some basic fine culture. Here in Singapore, it's quite different.
Now that commercial vehicles are allowed to travel 70Kmh, but I constantly see vans and lorries zipping by at above 70.
It is hard to apply these same rules here. A speed limiter tells a van driver that he is speeding, but the amount of time left in his watch tells him he'd lose his job or get paid lesser if he doesn't step on it.
Commercial vehicles speed because a lot of us don't have enough time in one working day, to do everything.
It's the pace of living here, caused by the high costs of living.
And then, there are also young punks, who buy vans just so they can go speeding around picking up chicks. These, are likely group of motorists who'd make life hard for us true bread winners with family to feed. -
