HIDs / White lights.... so darn bright.....Originally posted by Larry:I was thinking if those cars that come with HID pre-installed, compared to fog lamps, which one is more glaring and dangerous to road users.
Then obviously Lexus RX series fail their safety feature... the vehicle is so tall, but beam still needs to hit far distance (they can't make it too low) so end up in normal saloon eye-level.Originally posted by zheshi:A car that come with HID has safety feature that ensure that their light dun project too much light into the other car... It it those car with come without HID and than they go and install that is cuasing the problem
The newer RX have a feature which tilt the headlamps downwards when the car is on a up slope. Actually, the real HID lamps are not so glaring. Its those after market bulbs that are causing the problems. And with those who do not install it properly, it is worst. Which is why we have white lamps that are shining into the car in front.Originally posted by guitarman1:Then obviously Lexus RX series fail their safety feature... the vehicle is so tall, but beam still needs to hit far distance (they can't make it too low) so end up in normal saloon eye-level.
Fog lamps mostly point straight or slightly down and are not blinding... why so harsh enforcement....
dunno wat they are thinking man. Some of the older Mit Lancer QX cars also got foggies, next time clear day they on, take a photo and submit to LTA.
fog lights are those below the headlightsOriginally posted by SEI:fog lights you mean high beam right? i have a cr-v and there are lignts on the bottom below the headlights is that ok for it to be on?
I find it hilarious that fog lamps, usually installed at the lowest end of the car, should bother people so much.LTA should do driver education on high-beaming and headlight ride height instead..wanna bet if asked, they will pull out some arsed "figures" that show why fog lamps cause accidents.Originally posted by Larry:A friend of mine found this:
LTA Clears the air on proper use of fog lights
If drivers found the issue fuzzy before, the LTA is making it clear now: IT'S NOT UP TO MOTORISTS TO DECIDE WHEN TO TURN ON THEIR FOG LIGHTS.
In fact, since the beginning of this year, enforcement officers from the ROV have given verbal warnings to 120 motorists caught misusing their fog lights, which are the round or square lamps beneath the headlights. Last year, 200 drivers were warned.
It is an offence for motorists to use their fog lights during clear weather conditions, said LTA, and those caught flouting the rule may be fined or jailed.
The penalty for a first time offender is a fine of $1000 or a jail term of three months. Repeat offenders face double the penalty.
Fog lights should be used only during adverse weather conditons that result in seriously-reduced visibility - during a heavy downpour or in thick haze for instance. They are not to be turned on during clear weather or night time driving, said LTA
But motorists 938Live spoke to did not seem to be clear of this. Some bought cars that come with built-in fog lights while others installed the lamps on their own.
Said one driver: "Using the fog lamp is an offence? Luckily, I have never used it! But if it's an offence, why install it in the first place?... I personally find fog lights from vehincles behind me veru irritating."
LTA says it will soon launch a public education campaign on the proper use of fog lights.
In the first place, how glaring are factory fitted fog lights? Its those after market ones that are glaring. Try driving with only fog lights on, does the road get illuminated? the answer is NO!Originally posted by zgim80:adverse weather conditions oso can be subjective.. a unlit street can be hazardous without fogs too
makes sense dat ppl shd mention fogs r already very low n prob would not affect cars in front. + fogs r definitely less glaring den some xenon lamps or HID..
fixing HID lamps for car models is illegal here.Originally posted by zheshi:A car that come with HID has safety feature that ensure that their light dun project too much light into the other car... Their angle of beam is different from the normal one...
