  Hi all.
  
  thkin of buying a car...
  
  will appreciate if e old birds can advice on some of the fixed and hidden cost in car ownership...

  Lets see :
  
  Startup cost : Down payment
  
  Fixed Cost : Installment, insurance, road tax, parking
  
  Variable cost : petrol, ERP, parking again, maintenance
  
  Hidden Cost : fines, mods, car grooming, minor repairs, and PENALTY should you end your loan early for what ever reason

  Any Mitsubishi Lancer or Colt driver out there... Was considering one of the two...
  
  Anyone able to pump in some figure for me to work out my affordability?

  lancer:cost $53000(roughly lah). Say 10yr 100% loan,
  
  mthly installment: $630(roughly)
  parking: $65 open carpk, $90 multistorey.
  petrol:dep on how much you drive. Lancer is quite big drinker. Really hard to give figure. Range from
  $200 -- always go JB pump petrol with DAMN HEAVY USAGE!!!
  $150 -- very light usage.
  $200--$350 --moderate usage
  >$350 --heavy usage.
  
  road tax is $450 everry 6 mths, so din add here.
  Insurance is every year, so din add here.
  Road tax and insurance use bonus to pay.
  
  So effectively, your cost is abt $900 per mth.

  Lucky you, don't have ERP to worry about. Also the maintence and stuff too.

  Not forgetting
  
  1k service=60+(CC)
  10K = 150+-(CC) with synthetic
  20K = 260 +-(CC) syn (Juz done 20K + brake pad+gear oil+clutch) = 500
  Addtional 20k or 40k = dependable (average driver will clock 20k in 1 yr unless you are not going to use it often)
  
  Cashcard usage: ERP = 0.50cents - 2.50
  Cashcard parking = free - 2.50/hr
  
  Repairs = depending on what and where
  
  Insurance = depend on ur background (age or accident free or yrs of experience and whether got NCD or not )
  Road tax+radio = 980+- / yr
  
  Instalments = depends on what package you are getting.
  
  Me personally use about 1k-1.5k = heavy usage+lots of cashcards(even though sometimes go JB fill petrol)
  
  Fines = depending how many you want to get.lolz
  
  Fuel = see how much you use. on average 98shell now is 1.68+-/ltr
  
  One of the bad thing about lancer is if change stock body parts,quite ex compare to toyota or honda. Change bumper once...stock cost 370 (front bumper only no labour or paint job) wherelse honda or toyota cost around 150-200. Never go back to CC to do a repair...they will chop you upsidedown.
  
  Season parking = 65(HDB old carpark) - 250(CBD or private buildings carpark)

  that is ASSUMING that bonus is guarantee for the next 10 years

  share ur car loh... like wen going to work, get two or three friend to share. One day use ur car go in CBD.

  Never heard of getting SE to work all these expenses. Usually they just work out insurance, road tax, installment & interest, etc.

  My guess is S$1800-2000 without NCD.
