Can red light cameras catch you in a big rain?

  I always wondered about this.
  
  The way some of you describe it .. it just works like a conventional film camera. Can run out of film somemore! And it needs flash. So I think it works in the visible light spectrum?

  Tat is even if u go past during red light the camera woulnt snap..
  i.e. there is only a camera stand but no camera in the box..
