Illegal cars in Singapore

My friend's car got knocked at the side by another car. The car flee the scene. My friend took down the number, model and colour and reported to police. Police got back to them and said the car's plate, number and model do not match the description. My friend is sure that he got all the details correct as there are other passengers in his car noting the details. Could it be some one use a fake car plate?
Another colleague with her husband had similar experience. Her car got knocked and a gangster-like guy came off his car and shouted at them if they want to fight. They were so afraid that they stayed in their locked car. Again the car plate number and other details they noted down cannot help the police to trace anything.
So scary huh? -
Could be that car that knocked your friend already switched plates with another of his friend's car or something. On the other hand, there are people driving around with fake plates too. Some that I've seen include a Murcie and a NSX..

not surprising. ppl borrow from loansharks with fake ids. wads stopping ppl from committing offences with fake license plates?
having said that........ i find such acts totally despicable. may the fleas of a thousand camels infest their armpits~~~!

most likely those w fake plates are racers..i mean street racer who hope tt when camera flash at them, the number plate dun tally and hence, no record..

Ya there is alot of fake car number plates outside !! Dun ever kana caught a will face a big big problem after u got caught !!

At least 10 years ago, my cousin in the police force once told me there is some kind of coding in the number plate that once you just make up your own combination they can spot it right away. But the law breaker can just copya car plate number from a car that is same model. Who knows?
But this is scary, a car can knock you and run away. Then the licence plate number lead to no clue.
Or I also heard some cars can be declared to be destroyed but is still on the road. How true and how they do it, I dun know. -

i think some people have experienced it before. imagine u getting a summon for speeding @ 180km/h which u didn't commit! how r u gonna explain to the police when the cam pic shows ur car (same model, colour) n no.plate....
identity thefts... there could very well be another car with the same colour, details and no.plate as u roaming s'pore. unless u get an exotic car
kinda scary, kinda freaky... kinda tempting
but for me, my model has less than 20 units i think.... old car liao
