Precedure 1 u used is correct. The car move abit might becoz of 2 thingsOriginally posted by Glen999:Procedure 1: shift gear to 'park' -> handbrake -> release brake

cannot the above 2 u mentioned. Cos i usually pull my handbrake all the way up. and i always slowly release foot brake due to fear of my car shooting forward....Originally posted by joeacid:Precedure 1 u used is correct. The car move abit might becoz of 2 things
1) Handbrake not pulled enough
2) u release ur footbrake too quickly.
Try to release it abit like u do to ur clutch.
Craking sound is individual car problem, could be solved if u release it slower also.
that's weird... yah maybe u really shld...Originally posted by casshern:cannot the above 2 u mentioned. Cos i usually pull my handbrake all the way up. and i always slowly release foot brake due to fear of my car shooting forward....
its kinda scaring me. was thinking wat if one day my brakes fail den how. shd really go back and have my brakes checked
If your referring to an auto car then procedure 3 really dosent make sense. You need to step your footbrake to shift the gear from D to P, then release it. Only then you lift your handbrake.Originally posted by Glen999:Procedure 1: shift gear to 'park' -> handbrake -> release brake

as long as the foot brake is on throughout the steps, then should be correct, hence Procedures 1 & 2 roughly the same. Procedure 3, imo, is unadvisable, because it causes stress to the gear.Originally posted by Glen999:Procedure 1: shift gear to 'park' -> handbrake -> release brake

i think you're referring to 3
So I now use procedure 2 for any car.
Handbrake --> Shift to Park --> Release footbrake
Referring to both procedure 1 and 3 actually.Originally posted by Theatre Of Dreams:
