Mr De Souza should get a life and stop infesting St forums with his petty complaints. How much rigid does he want singapore to be? The highways here or expressways rather only limit to 90kmh which is still within acceptable limits of a person's ability to control the car.

High speed I usually drive with 1 hand + 2 fingers. The left hand is always on my lap, only 2 finger is long enough to reach the steering wheel. Above speed limit, I drive with 2 hands, because once I almost lose control when at high speed, 1 side of the car kanna water puddle. But if moving off or 60kph, I sometime drive with 1 hand on the door, the other changing gear and steering.

Does Mr Souza mean that drivers must fix both their hands on the steering wheel at all times while driving?
I wonder if Mr Souza and those who say it is illegal, change gears (if driving a manual) while driving.

one hand on the steering wheel and the other alternating between the steering wheel and the gear change. (when necessary) if you are not changing gears both your hands will be on the steering wheel - thats considered 2 hands on the steering wheel.
but if you drive with one hand, the other alternating between the gear change and somewhere else (on your lap, on the window etc) - thats driving with one hand on the steering wheel.
i dont know for sure if it is illegal. but one hand driving is more comfortable but certainly more dangerous. -

I think what Souza is trying to make a point that steering a car with one hand is dangerous. DUH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Who doesn't know that!!
But driving (on a straight stretch of road) with one hand....? Most of us do that.... fiddling with whatever we do while driving is common. How to make it an offence to drive with one hand? How to enforce such law?

Each hand can take turn to play the role of steering when one hand gets tired, the other take over..

i agree to a certain extent that driving the car with one hand is against the law.

I drive with one hand too, unless i'm driving at high speeds. My left hand is usually on the gear lever, though i drive an auto car.

hMz...if the signal/indicator lamps are spoilt and i need to use right hand signals/gestures to turn left/right, etc...illegal??? Die die both hands must on the steering wheel? Lagi dangerous without signalling, right???

Of course the TP will not charge anyone caught driving with only one hand on the steering wheel. However, as someone mentioned, it is easy to veer off course if you are driving with only one hand on the steering wheel, or to make an overly wide turn and cross the center white line. Under such circumstances, the TP can charge you for dangerous driving, etc. Thus, in conclusion, you will not be caught for driving with only one hand on the steering wheel, but you may be charged for the consequences of driving with only one hand on the steering wheel.

dcx is right lei. look at the theory book got pple signal spoil right hand outside window signalling wad. courtesy campaign also shows drivers raising their hands to sae thanks. therefore i think can conclude that driving with one hand is ok if the other hand is not occupied. means its free to jump straight to the steering wheel if anything happens. but its not safe at all if holding cigarette.. etc. (occupied)..
about the puddle thing.. YEAH my first encounter freaked me man.. driving on TPE (northbound) on lane 1... then 1 hand on wheel one resting rain just over an hour ago so road clear of water la then suddenly got this puddle on my right i see also nv react until my right wheels went into the puddle (but my left wheels were clear) whole car veer to the right both hands grab the steering wheel to hold straight.. lucky my resting hand not occupied..
HOW COME CDC NV TEACH MI TIS! pass my tp also nobodi tell mi. or issit i forget >.< -

, ya man, really taught us a lesson there! I also didn't recall any teachings from the driving instructers. I can still remember the van beside me siam until lane 3. Cheap car la, no eletronics to help correct the car, I heard much more expensive got some electronic to stabilise the car in this kind of cases. -

Left hand, right hand or both hands should not matter if the driver remains alert.
Driving is supposed to be relaxing, so long we are comfortable and careful, why kick a fuss over it? Very few people drive with both hands at 10-2 position isn't it?
Isn't the system we grow up in and live in already boxed us up? Why should anyone even control no of hands on steering wheel? Be alert and exercise good judgement and discretion is better than fixing 2 hands on the wheel and the eyes elsewhere....
