Sports edition was $58k in december i believe it's $54k now.
The freebies is 2 accessory from a list of many but applicable only if you take out a loan.
I did not take a loan but managed to bargain with the salesman to give me 2 freebies... Alloy Rims and Central locking/alarm.
Fuel consumption is better than Nissan Sunny. I usually top up when fuel reach 1/4, by then i would have travelled 380-400km. Whereas Sunny i get 280-320km.
In case you dunno. The SE is actually the same as the base edition when it arrives to singapore. the accessories are fitted in singapore.
For $3000 more, you get leather seats (non original), spoiler, driving lights, RalliArt Rims, alarm, reverse sensor... -

I'm currently driving the new FL sunny (auto). My best FC so far is 12.5km/l! My best mileage so far before topping up petrol is 460km!
Central lock and alarm are just basic and functional items in a brand new car. They comes in the package if you buy the new FL sunny. Your SE is just telling you nonsense if they don't come in the package.
Besides, you get free leather seats, reverse sensors and sports rims, all in the packages. Furthermore, you get free 7 servicings which covers 1st 50k km or 2.5 years whichever comes 1st.
I got solar films and fog lights as freebies.
Guess buying the new FL sunny is a better deal than getting a lancer.

For Lancer, the basic GLX does not have remote lock but i think got central lock. But alarm/remotre is installed locally.
The deal given to me was, either Sports Edition Lancer, or GLX or GLX +$1600 of features.
I took basic GLX but talked the SE to give me alarm/remote sensor and Alloy rims.
As for the Sunny, my sunny was a 2001 SS, and yes, mileage since then have been like that. 3/4 of full tank yields 300km.
For you to yield 460km, it must be on your driving habits. haha Because I achived 600km myself before, but's thats daily commute on ECP without aircon and during 5AM and 8PM traffic. So naturally the yield is high.
but on city driving, i hardly get beyond 325km.
You got quite a good deal from your Sunny purchase.
For me i can never get good freebies but i usually get very good pricing. and because i don't take loan and their insurance, so the SE usually don't get extra commission therefore unlikely to give me freebies. haha.
just a far idea what pricing i got, when the Lancer was $54888 in Nov 05. I got it for $49888. So... that pretty much leave very little for the SE to give me the freebies. -
Sorry, sidetrack a bit, since we are on the topic on Sunny's FC, just want to let you guys know that I have been achieving a constant mileage of 13-14km/l these few months... Which means that I usually top up full tank at 1/4 level, and distance travelled is ard 440 - 500(!!)km. Amt topped up is usually 33-35 litres.
So, i believe its the driver.. not the car.. its realli a common misconception that Sunny is a drinker...

Well, i do agree with you it's the driver. In fact, if my dad drives the car, the FC is worse.
But i can tell you i have did my best in maintaining FC, i rarely go over 2500 rpm most of the time staying at 2000rpm, and i try to maitain a constant speed.
but in city driving, it's almost impossible if so many start-stops driving.
The only thing that i have not done to prevent lousy FC is that i use the air-con.
otherwise, i do send for regular servicing, i rotate tires, maintaining its pressure.
I dunno if this matters but mine's a 2001 Sunny SS. So i dunno if this makes a diff. but even the Nissan SE tell me i cannot compare Sunny's FC with others because Sunnys are the heaviest in the 1.6 litre class but it gives a stable drive.
now that i switched to Lancer, i do notice a better FC, but i compromised lah. My insurance more ex. dunno why. $110 more in fact. -
I still on my aircon but not too cold though when driving my 2005 sunny. Yes, I'm on 80% highway and 20% city driving. But if you think you're going to have more city driving then get a more fuel efficient car like vios, jass or city. It all depends on your needs.
What's the point when you have aircon and you don't use it just becos you want to save more on the fuel? It just makes no sense to me unless we're back in the 70's where virtually there was no aircon at all.
By comparsion, it doesn't make sense to pay extra $ for upgraded version or deluxe model for that matter, to have the basic and functional items if sunny EX model basically comes with everything except solar films and fog lights.
So of course, I'll choose sunny after doing the sums.
By the way, some people was saying lancer got a lousy and weak engine becos C&C still using the old and out-dated SOHC engine technology on its lancer. Some were saying its auto gear box or throttle body for that matter, easily breakdown after a few years and the cost of repairing it can be as expensive as $1200.
Other than that, I think it's a good and affordable car. -

I guess when it comes to who gets a better deal..its a matter of negotiations..As to which car is more value for money...its an arguement that can last till the cow comes home..so here my few cents

** i do agree that it is crap, how can a car be sold without the most basic neccessity, ie a remote control alarm..but anyway, I got it at a special rate
If im not wrong a sports edition manual will cost abt $1.9k more den wad im paying for the additional bodykit, ralliart rims and spoiler..as for me...I've gotton all first hand, 17" rims with falken tyres ($1.1k), E8 spoiler with Carbon fibre centre panal ($390), sports edition bodykit ($500)...Im happy with it and I think its more worthy than getting a sports edition...by paying slightly more in modifications I get a nicer wings and prettiers CE28 replica rims.. -
Yep, my Nissan SE told me that 2005 SS is not worth it as 2005 EX is as good as what I got from my 2001 SS. How I ended up with my Lancer was that because I am going to "part-time" migrate soon, so I just need a car that moves but I won't be using much of it.
So my choices were Nissan Latio, Sunny, Mazda 3 or Lancer.
Latio was really my first chioce but i gotta fork out extra $20k to top up from my PARF rebates. So considering that i will not use the car often. This choice is out. Same reason for Mazda 3.
So it is a decision between Sunny and Lancer. Sunny was out because my previous car was a sunny. it's stupid to go from Sunny SS to Sunny EX.
About the Lancer engines, yep. it's really outdated SOHC and i have a feeling it is the same "technology" that powers Wiras and Accents.
I actually feel that this Lancer is "downgraded" to be a cheap alternative in the market.
I remember when buying my 2001 Sunny, the Lancer then was the 3rd most expensive in its class (after Civic and Corolla). My sunny was $78k and the Lancer $88k.
But back then Lancer had a Mivec Engine and 4-spd auto trans. The CVT was on the 1.8l.
As for the throttle and transmission problem, i am already experiencing that now. this feeling that the engine is going to stall. -
Strange... No one compared Lancer to a Honda City?

In Japan, they are having new Lancer design. How come Singapore is still carrying the old look?

I am interested in getting a lancer and was impressed that you managed to obtain a $5K discount from $54888 to $49888, free alarm/remote sensor and alloy rims at the time of purchase in Nov 05. Would you care to share your SE or how could I go about having the same awesome deal?
BTW how is the throttle n transmission problem you have experienced?
