  motorola is the supplier for GRiD, so i dun see an issue here of it not working, no warranty and support etc.

  bro, some of the talkies in the market are export sets...some have specs which are against the regulations under IDA. under IDA ruling, talkie range canot be more than 5km i tink, unsure of the specs. but there are certain talkies in the market, offering up to 22 miles on specs. all these falls under export set, which manufacturers dun cover them in their warranties.

  Its illegal to use in Singapore and Malaysia for this kind of walkie talkies. Might as well buy the legal for Singapore but still illegal to use in Malaysia.
  Check out the walkie talkies under pmr 446. that's the legal one for singapore.
  
  anyway what ever the spec wrote of certain miles/km it can cover, if you can get it within 1km your lucky.
  
  shiro is the cheapest but like shit, voice crackling like hell
  
  soundtech, not bad come with ear piece but battery must change everyday, sound quality very clear
  
  motorola is about $120 per piece but the call button is at the center
  
  hyp so far is the best
  
  u also got watch type a.k.a. windtalker
  
  just now i saw pmr446 with brand alan. so far this brand got good review
  
  so guys if u want to use a walkie talkie, i suggest use legal one. at least u can use it in singapore for shopping whatsoever;p

  well, legal one range very short, channel very little...and most car groups are using those IDA non-approved type..
  
  and as the saying goes, do anything u wan, but dun get caught..

  I am using 2 ...
  
  1. a small cute little one that covers 2 miles with AAA sized batteries
  2. a slightly larger one that covers 12 miles after that day trying to catch up with Bananasg and group (this one at least have rechargable battery)
  
  i dunno which is approved and not approved lah ... but one thing's for sure, it's darn handy when it comes to group outings!

  Bro! they improve it with the button at the side like A conventional walkie .... & now for $120 you can get a pair with back lights, vibration and 22miles AND with local warranty! not mentioning earpiece + confirm 'connection' with other Motorolla walkie owners

  yah agreed....they should open up more channel instead of 5....everytime will got some unknown personal interference who doesn't know the code of conduct when using walkie talkies
