u forgotten abt road tax and insurance? these should incl. into ur monthly budget as well. perhaps petrol too?
for that amt. u can look at compact korean cars or chevy aveo series? i think even the msian made cars are applicable but how reliable are they, esp. the msian ones? korean like hyundai still can barely make it. else picanto is also a nice small compact car to consider. -

beggars cant be chosers... im not saying that ure a beggar.. but with ur $400/mth.. u cant really afford a nice/spacious car..
welcome to singapore.. with $400/mth overseas.. u can buy v.nice and spacious cars already..
hyundai cars are heavy bodied.. so consumption is rather high.. but i dunno wat that hyundai sonata do to win that shell fuel stretch challenge.. 32km/litre..
for ur budget.. consider 2nd hand honda jazz or maybe COE civic.. i think $20k can get one already.. go browse sgcarmart.com and select ur price range.. -

if u want to buy a brand new car.. please dont buy hyundai or kia.. i'm not bias against korean cars but they need to improve on certain things..
i would highly recommend you to buy a toyota vios for ur range because toyota is known for its reliability. though many would say that its made in thailand and its not as good as before.. i would still thing its a better choice over the korean cars u mentioned.

Hey man...48000 is car price and 10 yrs interest lay...take away the 10 yrs interest money...how much u left only...very little....den Vios where got so cheap, i checked the price now it around 49k -
1) Mitsubishi Lancer ----------> abt 49K
2) Toyota Corolla Altis --------> abt 57K
3) Toyota Vios ------------------> abt 47K

kia picanto seems to be the car tt suits ur budget. with the interest rates, car price and all.. FC is very good, manual can clock 17km/l. road tax insurance all cheap cheap... -

Picanto, Aveo too small? too ugly? wake up your idea man. You can afford a car with $400 already a miracle. Probably you might have to save on coupons like the guy who kena 24pts for cheating.
I fully agree with "zero" on "beggars can't choose" so don't act as if you got $300k and looking for an extra exotic car just to fill up your empty backyard.

hi...cos it's the 1st time i'm getting a car...and it's my parents who is paying the installments for me...i'm not frm a rich family, so we not going to pay much for the down payment...so everything monthly installments...and i only need to pay the petrols and those other small small things...i'm just trying to get a car which can squeeze my whole family of 4 into the car...my dad is quite big size...impossible to ask him sit in a Picanto rite?

Didn't you read that he mentioned S$400 for the car loan monthly installment only not including fuel and other fringe costs? got a COE E200 merc going for $39k..
actually got a few.. from $25-$40k..
ur father sure can fit into merc one..
but maintenance.. i dun think its cheap.. but u don have to go back to C&C to service/repair.. can go those at sin min/eunos or those industrial parks with car workshops..
reliable? its very sturdy and reliable car.. my dad sold our merc 200 to my uncle and my uncle is still using it.. its 20yr old car and it is running perfectly alright.
uncle still uses car to go up north with no problems at all.. i dont like it's acceleration.. but yeah.. its a 20yr old car, cant expect much from its performance..
can consider merc bcoz at that point of time, it does not have much electronic and gadgets.. so... i think it's alright to buy it.. but once again.. let me remind u, it is not very economical to get the car running about..
