Worth to buy SG to travel back MY????

I'm new here and just to say hi to all of u.
I have 1 question, is it worth to buy a SG car and travel back malaysia everyday? I'm PR here so cant drive MY car in.
Thinking maintainance and petrol can get from MY, will it affortable in S$600? -
its a waste of money to buy cars in singapore unless you are filthy rich.

Yes, worth it if you work here, earn SGD, stay in JB, top up petrol in JB, servicing and repair your car in JB.
Most of my m'sian PR friends do that.
In fact, they're the ones who are enjoying the best of both worlds yet got no NS obligations.
When they have earned and saved enough, they will most likely be going back to m'sia for retirement. -

And for once, buying car in JB more ex than buying in SG all thks to protect Proton -
You can try writing to LTA your situation.
Saying you are a PR but residing in Malaysia.
Because i know they allow Malaysia vehicles in Singaproe during daytime if you are using it for work.
but your case since you are PR, quite complicated. -

but LTA may sometimes grant you exceptions depending on circumstances.
like towing of campervans is not allowed by LTA, but they have granted some exemptions to ppl given their nature of the travel.
all the threadstarter gotta do is ask LTA.

Most of the PR I know ride motorcycle in although they have Malaysia registered vechicles back in malaysia. It is cheaper.
But to own a Singapore registered car and drive in and out it is not really that worth it. You will still have to observe the 3/4 rule like Singapore citizen. -
no worries for 3/4 fuel tank rule if you drive back to MY everyday where you can pump the petrol before you come into SG unless you finish 1/4 fuel tank in 1 day while driving in SG
get a 2nd hand car ...... maybe > 3 years old ... no need factory warranty since you can service / repair your car in MY ... cheaper in MY$ ... beside a 3 - 4 years old SG car condition is mostly pretty good !
the one and only problem is traffic jam at causeway ... if you can handle this problem (avoid the worst timing) ... it's workable ....[/b] -
VEP can be heavy in the long run...
M'bike $4 a day, can mean $1150+ a year based on 5.5 work week day
Though owning MY m'bike dun need to pay road tax, paying the VEP isn't worth it -

Rest of the world cars, pass on of old age, drive tilll cannot drive.
Ask LTA, of cause, govt want to earn your money, sure buy s'pore good.

Jam, you will have to learn to perdict it as you go along. I have MY friends staying in Singapore driving SG car, only goes in JB during weekends. So all it goes down is can you afford the money. To avoid Jams, can either come in early and go back late. Or use second link which is slightly more ex because of extra toll. Usually those who travel JB-Singapore everyday is because of family. For me, I rather use that S$600 to rent a room close to my workplace. -
If i choose to stay in SG then I would rather take public transport to work because transport network in SG is consider convinient.
However, owning a car is every man's dream!!! And due to some family commitment, buy a car maybe is not only an optional...
Can anyone advice wat need to consider travel back woth SG car?? -

Insurance = easily $1000 per year
Maintenance ?

installment = S$386 (full loan 10 years)$35k x 1.325
petrol = $130 (let say 5days RM15x5daysx4weeks/2.26)
road tax = $50 (yearly $566)
insurance = $80 (yearly $1000)
maintenance = $30 (let say 3 times a year at $360)
work out = $676
(of course no very accurate lah

Most of my m'sian friends go back to JB during the weekends becos they don't want to be caught in the jam.
Some can afford, they bought a SG car and stay in a rented SG flat. Some cannot afford, they stay in rented flat and take public transport to JB.
Nobody can tell you whether it's enough or not. You do your sums with your available budget. If I tell you it's enough. Don't tell me you straight away go and buy? If next time not enough, how? I fork out the balance for you from my own pocket? -
Anything to take note or anyone have experiences can share if travel back MY with SG car?
