It doesn't mean much, except the A-Class is the entry-level model (B, C, E, G, M and R in between) and the S-Class is the flagship (the V-Class MPV is an oddity). And then you have the sportier SLK, CLK and the GT-esque CL and SL.Originally posted by gd4u:I would like to ask something ...
Is there a meaning to the labelling of classes ??
I mean, what does the "S" stands for ??
Whats the differences between S, E, C classes ??
I'm not sure if i'm correct or not..but this is what i think my dad told me..hahaOriginally posted by gd4u:I would like to ask something ...

CLS should be in the same range as S class. they are not mid size. They are priced almost the same as the S class.Originally posted by ^tamago^:they have A, B, C, E, G, M, R, S classes. under S and C class, we have SL/CL, SLK/CLK, SLR and CLS.
Class ranking: S, E, C, A.
A are super minis entry-level cars.
C are compact (mid-sized) entry-level luxury cars.
E and CLS are mid-sized cars.
S are full-sized (limousine) cars.
SL and SLK are roadsters.
CL and CLK are coupés.
SLR is McLaren.
G are SUVs.
GL, M and MLK are Crossover SUVs, or XUVs.
B and R are MPVs.
the first 2 number is an indication of the engine displacement, e.g. E220's have a displacement of roughly 2.2 litres. but this comes with exceptions, e.g. C-class C180, C200 CDI and C240.
Non-class (not for first alphabet) designations:
L = Leicht (light). used to be long wheelbase.
R = Racing
S = Sportlich (sporty)
K = Kompakt (compact)
D = Diesel
CDi = Common-rail Diesel Injection
